Morbid Lust is a short affair that bursts forward with a sense of imminence. Immediately you are greeted with the lines “Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, may the ones within your hands become infected with rust” which resound like a gritty echo in a massive chamber. Then, the riffs start, and man, does this thing
riff. There are galloping tremolos, energy packed licks and shreds, and just an overall sense of sinister fun. Each track comes surging forth with the force of a thousand demon incarnates, and that is simply the perfect way to make straightforward ripping black metal.
In addition, the vocals are the silliest yet most fun vocals I have heard from any black metal in a very long time. Sometimes they howl, sometimes they shriek, sometimes they shout the words “Cuckholded by Satan:. There is such a perfect blend of vocal variety without deviating so far from the typical black metal path that it begins to lose a core sound.
