Review Summary: A comforting EP with great moments.

Most people have friends. Whether they speak frequently or rarely, hang out occasionally or seldom, friends are apart of most of our lives. And if you're anything like me, dear reader, then nothing is more comforting then just the ability to hang out and chill with a friend. And that key word right there, comforting, is the best way to describe A Thread Between Friends, the debut EP of spaceseer, a one man synth project hailing from Provo, Utah, and recorded in the blistering heat of Phoenix, Arizona.

Opening up with a deep wave of sound, “Away” immediately piques the interest as it drifts through space, unveiling it's sites to you before overwhelming you with it's vastness. “Laws of Sociality” changes pace a bit, putting it into mid-gear and cruise control as drums appear for the first time, laying down a relaxing groove while the bass rides along and synths dance in the background, creating a decidedly fun atmosphere. Third track “Press Matters” opens up slowly, with a droning synth, propping up the bass and drums. The song picks up a bit later with some background noises like a fax machine and has a great upwards trajectory in tempo that shows some great songwriting.

As the last track draws forth, our wise seer and good friend decides to unveil the best track on the EP, “King of Kings.” Standing at over 8 minutes long, this track is a great demonstration of spaceseer's songwriting prowess. Slow burning, with a great balance of drums and actual bass. “King of Kings” meander's forward, understanding it has all the time to get to where it has to go, but never wanders for to long doing one thing, always making progress to the destination.

This is an extremely enjoyable EP, at 20 minutes long these four songs leave you satisfied and wanting more. It's not perfect by any means; “Away” can seem kind of random at times so that, while not bad, could probably have used a more cohesive melody and as great as “Laws of Sociality” is, it's way to short and feels underdeveloped. With a little more cohesion and tighter development, spaceseer has the potential to release some seriously great music.

Any c/c welcome. I'm not terribly familiar with synth music but I really enjoyed this project. Pick it up here if you'd like, it's a name your own price. https://spaceseer.bandcamp.com/
