Review Summary: We're framed, we're fine, we're good enough

Run is the third LP from New Jersey emo/indie/post rock band Prawn, and their first new output since 2014’s Kingfisher (excluding the Settled 7” and a split with Moving Mountains). The band sticks with longtime label and indie/emo staple Topshelf Records, and this release adds another 40 minutes of great post rock-tinged, indie rock-leaning emo to their already consistent catalogue (admittedly, I have been hugely anticipating this release, since Kingfisher was one of my favorite albums of that year). Run finds a more energetic Prawn than we’ve seen before, with tracks like “Rooftops” and “Cricket in the Ward” bringing a sense of urgency rarely seen in previous releases. The band still tread familiar ground, however: See lead single “North Lynx”, and its extended post-rocky outro, as well as the more laid-back “Short Stem”, which recalls 2014’s “Absurd Walls”. “Leopard’s Paw” is a definite highlight, recalling Kingfisher’s denser, hazier moments. The band maintains the looping guitars and active basslines of past albums, along with vocalist Tony Clark’s impassioned yelp, though Run serves as a pop-ier, more upbeat foil to the band’s dreamy blend of post rock, indie, and emo. Even if it doesn’t quite reach the dark, crashing heights of its predecessor, Prawn have produced a delightful, engaging album that should please fans of the best bands to come out of yesteryear’s emo revival and, along with its predecessor, cement Prawn’s place among them.

Paragraphs my friend, this isn’t a soundoff. Very short review also, work on fleshing them out a bit more. Also, the writing is a little robotic, work on keeping the reader hooked with some variety. An example of this is using “the band” to start two nearby sentences, which is something to be avoided. Hope this was helpful.

One paragraph reviews are fine [2], and can actually be really good if written correctly. Overall, you did a pretty decent job here - got a decent grasp of what this is and I admit, it sounds pretty good.

Something I'd watch in future reviews though is ensuring you're not referring to other albums too much - a lot of your descriptions here linked to past releases, and this can alienate readers who might not be familiar with the artist's back catalogue.

Hope to see you about and writing more!

Some background to this review: This is one of the first reviews I've written for my college radio station, where they are supposed to be short enough to fit on a CD cover. Saw this didn't have a review yet so I thought I'd take a shot and post mine. Thanks a bunch for the feedback!

I strongly believe that Leopard's Paw is the cutest thing happened in Emo since Forever Longing The Golden Sunsets.

Too bad this album is underrated as fuck, easily on my Top 5 albums of 2017.
