Review Summary: David Bowie is Alive! He staged his death again and reinvented a new persona!
If you want a comparison to help you picture Sluka's music, bring in mind a bit of early mid/early period
David Bowie and... just that!
the similarity is so striking that you'd think they are a bunch of demoed songs that were left out of 'Hunky Dory' 's final cut.
The songwriting tends mostly towards the simplest progressions of Bowie's but that's to give you a picture, not to degrade it in any way, it's actually really solid!
Digging around to find more info on line, I stumbled upon an interview where the main man behind the project, Christopher Sluka claims that any similarities with the greatly missed White Duke is coincidental... Well I am not buying that. The way he sings, aside from the actual singing voice's colour, from the way he composes the melodies to the way he dubs them and generally the way vocals are produced re Bowie-esque to the bone.
I am just letting you know, because although some people love it like me, other's might hate that fact!
If you put this fact aside, what you're left is a really good record with 10 absolutely interesting songs, I wish the lyrics were on bandcamp though because I struggled to figure out what they were on about on so many instances.
Some highlights are the back guitar ambience on 'Visceral Repercussion' Earl Slick would have loved this... And Tease Me that actually could be easily be a part of 'Heathen'
In all fairness, I really think it deserves your time! Can't wait to see what that Visual album he's preparing is all about!
