Review Summary: BUT OUR REVIEW IS IN ANOTHER CASTLE

Now pique your ears, oh wide-eyed ones
For folk songs drying in the sun
A vulture’s nest of knotted chords
Of cracked and splintered cottage floors

It opens with a lullaby
That shuffles quiet, idly by
It moves on to better place
It covers up its crooked face

A voice that sounds like cotton wool
Can rasp and snarl like power tools
The innocent red riding hood
Can bare teeth like a Werewolf should

Then it cries out with cold Regret
Around a beat that stutter-steps
Like clanging pots and loosened bolts
The music of a tired revolt

'Til Hot Knives slice the tom-tom’s skin
To spill the voices from within
They swim around inside the brain
Then end up circling the drain

And metaphors do stumble through
But never shy away from you
Poetic in a violent way
A kind of rusted-metal grey

These songs, they come from autumn’s bite
From freezing cold and morning light
From bitter truths and too much wine
They're Left Alone and unrefined

So pique your ears, oh wide-eyed ones
For melodies dried in the sun
These folk songs found their way to me
By falling off the Apple tree.

Will have to read this one again in the morning, but it's for sure interesting and it sounds very, very nice. Nice work as usual, Jack.

very, very well written. love the Weiss influence, even if it's derivative in some parts ("of cracked and splintered cottage floors"... "clanging pots and loosened bolts"). still, a lot of this hits just the right spot, specially love stanza 5

also @Iron: yeah i guess you're right, although all of this review sounds derivative to me because i can't stop reading it to the melody haha. oh well, at least i can say that those descriptions feel accurate for the album

Fiona Apple's been so consistently solid it's ridiculous.

This may be true, but to be fair she only has 4 albums in a 20+ year career.
