H.I.M is one of the worlds greatest Rock bands ever, there songs are truely inspirational and are great to listen to.

HIM's band members are:-

Ville Valo - Vocals
Linde - Guitar
Mige - Bass Guitar
Gas - Drums
Burton - Keyboard

The latest album HIM have released is 'Dark Light' is a great album with new songs on it. This album gives off a darker side of HIM's songs, with songs named, 'Dark Light', 'Behind the Crimson Door' and 'Vampire Heart.'

Tracks

1. Vampire Heart (4:46)

The album starts off with the song 'Vampire heart,' this song is one of the best songs HIM have wrote.
The opening line to this song refers to the wrath of the heart, 'You can't escape the wrath of my heart, beating to your funeral song.' Already, the use of imagery is used to give off the theme of death and the human body, 'heart' and 'funeral.'
The chorus for this song has a great choice of words, 'Let me bleed you this song of my heart deformed,' references to the human body are given again (blood and heart.)
In the second Chorus, the words are similar to the first, 'Let me weep you this poem as Heaven's gates close.' This is a moving line with references to death with Heaven's gates closing. Imagery is used, you can imagine a person outside heavens gates whilst they are closing, weeping a poem.

2. Wings of a butterfly (3:29)

This song introduces itself with a brilliant guitar entry, a nice drum beat is played throughout the whole song. The choice of words is brilliant, 'With hell freezing over in our eyes' and 'Gods kneel before our crime.' The idea of hell where it is imagined to be very hot there, freezing over, is insane, but HIM make this sound possible with steady guitar, bass, druma and vocals. This is another one of HIMs best songs and newest.

3. Under the Rose (4:49)

This song has a slow introduction to it on keyboard which gradually builds up to a steady pace. When Ville sings, his first line is, 'I dream of the winter in my heart turning to spring,' this is a great first line as it has a warm feeling to it. A great choice of words again, 'I've been burning in water and drowning in flame,' this use of words is remarkable, because it makes the audience think about the meaning of the song and not just listening to it without really understanding the greatness of it.

4. Killing Lonliness (4:29)

This song has a great introduction with the keyboard, which then is joined with the guitar, then the drums and bass, then finally the vocals at 28 seconds. The first and second lines gives the image of pain/death, 'Memories, sharp as daggers, pierce into the flesh of today.' Even though nobody has been mentioned yet, the use of the words 'flesh' and 'pierce' gives us the impression of stabbing with a dagger.
This is a great song, another one of HIMs finest.

5. Dark Light (4:30)

This song starts with a sound of rattling breath, then straigt onto the keyboards, guitar and drums. Then at 34 seconds, Ville introduces himself with his first line, 'Shivers run through the spine,' most of HIMs songs have references to the human body, in this case 'spine' is used.
This song has a slow pace throughout, it is once again a great song.

6. Behind the Crimson Door (4:37)

This song has a medium pace introduction, it has a great choice of words, 'Covered the carcass of time with flowers' references to bodies are given again, a reference to death is given her with the word, 'carcass.' This imidiately gives this song a darker feeling.
On the second line, 'To send the scent of blame to the grave,' another reference to death is given with the word, 'grave.'

7. The Face of God (4:35)

This song starts slowly with an eerie sound which sounds like the sewers sound, which then progresses into a steady drum beat, then with the guitar. The start of the vocals is unusual for HIM as the drums, bass and guitar stop, the keyboards go on but not with much music. The first and second lines, 'I'm drained but aching for more, and the devil inside is reading,' are quite good, it gives a reference to the devil, HIM have said that they are not a Satanic band but in this song we get a reference of Satan.
The ending of the song is good, the instruments suddenly stop playing, with Ville carrying on with a bold, 'God.'

8. Drunk on Shadows (3:49)

This song begins with drums, bass, guitar and keyboard straight off, with a steady beat from the drums, 12 seconds in, Ville starts to sing with the first line, 'Hiding underneath, the veil of broken dreams,' this is a good first line because it introduces the theme of dreams, these dreams have been broken so this gives the song a dark start. The title Drunk on Shadows raises questions about how can you get drunk on shadows.
Another great song.

9. Play Dead (4:36)

This song starts with the keyboards, a slow introduction which starts suddenly with the drums, bass and guitar. The vocals come in 40 seconds after the songs starts with, 'A moth into a butterfly,' this could mean that something turns from dull to colourful.

10. In the nightside of Eden (5:39)

This song starts with the keyboard at first 12 seconds when the bass, guitar and drums come in. The first line, 'Divided we stand in the light of a frozen sun,' this makes the audience think, that the sun can't be frozen because it is too hot.

This isn't bad at all for a first review, but you lacked a good opening and didn't have a closing at all. It'd be nice if you could give detail that would help the reader know the overall feel of the album instead of hearing about how each song is good, or bad. The review was really repetitive too. You said, 'this song', in the beggining of almost every paragraph.

H.I.M. is just an average band. Not bad, but not good either.

H.I.M is one of the worlds greatest Rock bands ever,

Right from the moment I read this, I knew exactly what to expect and I was right.

You need much better structure in your reviews and you really, really need to tone down the fanboyism. You keep acting as if every cliche that Ville falls back on in his lyrics is brilliant. You also describe every song in pretty much the exact same fashion. To hear you say it, every song on this album is basically a copy of the last.

The intro was beyond minimalist, and as Kripes pointed out, there was a complete lack of any conclusion.

In general, you want a review to adequately describe an album and provide some information on the band themselves. You want to persuade people to either buy the album or avoid it, and this review really did neither. This Message Edited On 06.03.06

H.I.M. doesn't strike me as a band that could be called "inspirational." I'm not going to neg you because it's your first review, but pick it up next time.

I would give you some constructive critisism but everything wrong with this has already been pointed out. So I'll just say this is a bad review, and a bad album.

But don't worry unlike this band you'll improve as time goes on.

Didn't they drop the whole H.I.M. when stopped using the acronym His Infernal Majesty from being a Sabbath cover band and use just HIM?

Love the album.

But uhm. Horrid review.

I would like to point out what's wrong with your review so you could get better, but I just can't point out anything specifically wrong. Namely because EVERYTHING is wrong with it. You're getting the lamest meanings out of Ville's lyrics, and I still question the need to point out how it's unlikely that the sun would freeze over "because it's so hot." If anything, I love the review because it is just so F***ing funny.

Since's it your first review I won't neg but remember these things. Your too biased, which is okay to some extent but you need to argue your point and back it up. Structure is a very good thing. Fanboy-ism isn't a good thing either. Try and review things as if you never heard it before. Follow these guidelines on your on your way :thumb:
