Review Summary: Chugging, electronics and choruses.
Electronicore band Attack Attack! released their second full-length album in 2010. It got, well... mixed reviews. Some see this record as really evolving and more mature than band's debut release (it's childish, but enjoyable sometimes), while others see this one as generic electronicore release, but with bigger abuse of breakdowns. I agree with both statements, but why?
Sure, chugging and djenting all the time may be annoying, but Attack Attack! actually made groovy and really powerful breakdowns. The only disadvantage is that there is sometimes too much. For example, AC-130 is just a set of breakdowns, not lasting even 2 minutes. Sometimes electronics are abused too, Shut Your Mouth is a great example of that. I mean, the track is good, has some good synths, however leaves me with 2 questions: Who the *** is McSwagger and why is it in the middle of a metalcore record?
Album opens with Sexual Man Chocolate - dumb title, great song. Major 7th added good vibe to the song, like in the "Get ahead and bury me deep down inside" part. Powerful chorus, great intro, great breakdown. Then, there's Renob, Nevada. Features really aggressive intro, hardcore verse and another melodic chorus. At this point, record may be a bit repetitive and boring. After that, we get to I Swear I'll Change. This one is more melodic than 2 previous songs, features great lyrics and hits right in the feels. Hardcore vibe of the record then gets smashed and brutally devastated by Shut Your Mouth. You know what I think about that song.
A For Andrew - breakdowns with a chorus. Nothing interesting here, let's get to Smokahontas. Begins with a quite ***ty breakdown, then there's a decent chorus, average riff, pre-chorus, chorus, excellent electronic breakdown, another riff, build-up, last verse, breakdown. One of the better tracks on the album. AC-130 is nothing interesting, just 0s with Caleb Shomo screaming "YOU'RE BETTER OFF DEAD". Fumbles O'Brian features some good synths, however gets a lot of hate because of simplicity and auto-tune in the middle. Chorus on this song is also great. After that we get to average metalcore song Turbo Swag. It features mainly chord progressions and truly good chorus. Last song, Lonely, features Jason Cameron, vocalist of Bury Tomorrow, best voice to ever exist in metalcore. Johnny Franck and Jason match each other really good. Hidden track ending the album was actually pretty good too.
The album may not be for you, but for electronic-metalcore fans it should be great. Sometimes it's repetitive as ***, but the entire thing is just fun.
This is my first review, tell me what should I work on and what did I miss, please.
