Review Summary: It doesn't make my ears bleeping bleed, but it comes close at times, especially considering its obsessed with ass.
Crunkcore has been a genre that has always been hated by the masses of everyone in music save for scene kids and maybe(?) a few emos. Greenwood, Indiana-based outfit
Dot Dot Curve aren't much better than the likes of those such as
Brokencyde or
Scene Kidz (hell, the only remotely decent band in the genre is
Breathe Carolina as they actually have tolerable voices), but from a standpoint of someone who has heard quite a few crunkcore bands (unfortunately), Dot Dot Curve is one of the more tolerable ones of the bunch, but its not saying much especially considering the genre.
Introductory track "thisdICK" is the generic crunkcore mess; autotuned EVERYTHING, but the background beats are actually OK and dare I say even catchy at times. The clean vocals are some of the better ones in the genre, but the biggest question I have is why the hell are they using the "N" word when they're just a bunch of white boys? It's unnecessary, but it should have been expected because they are teenagers after all. "Crunkest" is one of the worst offenders on the album, featuring so many grammatically incorrect lyrics ("We're the loudest, motherf**king crunkest" or something like that) that would make even a personification of "Word Crimes" by
Weird Al Yankovic give up on teaching these kids proper English. Fortunately, the screaming is a tiny bit more tolerable on here than the first track and features a nice little guitar solo near the end, but it doesn't save the track in general from being bad whatsoever. "Krunkatronic"'s title is utterly confusing; you spelled "crunk" right on the previous track, why couldn't you do it here? Oh, yeah, its a crunkcore band i'm reviewing. The raps are perhaps the most coherent thing on the album aside from the background electronics, but it features some odd record-scratching effects that don't make the vocals sound bad, but odd. The actual lyrics of the rap suck, but the rap's delivery is tolerable to sit through for a bit until the inevitable screaming comes in. "SuperSEXX" has a fascination with ass, repeating "ass on my chest" numerous times, along with the vocalist screaming "SUPERSEXX" more times than
Blood on the Dance Floor has tried to write faux-inspirational lyrics. I'd say this track is the biggest atrocity of the album. "Thr3e1Se7en" has a nice accordion-like interlude at the beginning of it and features the best rap delivery on the album. "F**kMyLife* shows Dot Dot Curve attempting to look as depressed as possible despite the brightly colored hair and clothes that look very sunshine, lollipops and happiness to me and everyone else. The track was really meant to attempt to appeal to emo teenagers rather than scene kids. The rest of the album is just the generic crunkcore formula of random screams, electronic puking vocals and rapping that ranges from mediocre or OK at best to making Silento look like the god of music at worst. The album closure is "The Ass Song". I don't think I need to say anything other than that when it comes to that song.
While Dot Dot Curve could potentially be alright if they moved away from crunkcore and went straight up metalcore, the genre choice here makes the album quality lower than it could be if it was "party metalcore" in the style of music like that of
Attila or early
Bring Me the Horizon, with no autotune and more instrument-driven, as damn that guitar solo on "Crunkest" shows that these kids are at least capable of playing instruments decently. Unfortunately, they let their talent go to waste by choosing instead to play what one other band's debut's outro track describes as "crunk and screamo". Which is a pathetic idea, and it only began to really die out two years ago; it took way too long. What gets this album a 1.5 from me is its decent rapping at some parts and OK background beats which saves the album a little bit for someone who can tune out the vocals like me; if this was a strictly instrumental album then the score would probably be a 2.5 or 3.
Pros:
-OK background beats
-Crunkest's guitar solo
-Decent rapping at some parts
Cons:
-Its crunkcore
-More autotune than Rebecca Black's "Friday" and Justin Bieber's discography combined
-The song titles are atrocious (save for "Device" I guess?)
-F**kMyLife
-Its obsessed with ass
-The Ass Song
-White boys using the "N" word (i'm not black but still)
