Review Summary: Music is a hell of a drug.
Weedeater is one of the bigger names within the sludge/stoner scene. Upon first listen, it's not hard to tell why. They have earned their place with their impossibly loud, fuzzy, and energetic style of music. They don't steer too far away from this style, but they don't have to. This band has found their sweet spot. They are going to pump out face melting sludge, and you are going to like it.
The albums starts off beautifully with the excellent title track. This is a fun track filled with catchy riffs and the thick, raspy vocals of Dave Collins. This is an easy track to headbang to and it demands multiple listens. I could say the same for the majority of God Luck and Good Speed. All of the tracks flow together seamlessly. The next one picks up where the other one left off. This makes the album feel very satisfying. It is a joy to listen to this all the way through.
Production is not lacking either. Every instrument shines through. Yes, the guitars are thick and fuzzy, but they do not overpower the vocals. The bass is satisfyingly thick and crunchy. The drums cut right through all of the madness. This is the way sludge metal is supposed to sound.
A few tracks into the album, you can feel it. This album has pulled you in, and it's not going to let go. There's nothing you can do about it except turn up the volume and enjoy the ride. Feeling fuzzy yet? Of course you are. You're listening to Weedeater.
