Review Summary: After all that has been said about this album being bad or lame. It's truly underated, this is a 4/5 album, each song is fantastic except for Deep in the Hole. But it doesn't ruin the whole thing. This could possibly be one of their top 3 albums and shoul
In 1980 AC/DC they put out to be the 2nd best selling album of all time, Back in Black. 1 year after they put out their biggest success they came out with, For those about to Rock. This album was exceptional with some greats tunes, but without putting an album in 1982, Flick of the Switch was delayed 2 years and came out in 1983. This wasn't a big success nor a great review from critics. But personally for a long time and true hearted AC/DC fan, this is a spectacular album with killer riffs, vocals, and lyrics. This is also the last album until 1995 to feature Phil Rudd on drums. Simon Wright would take his place for the tour and the albums until 1989.
Rising Power 3.5/5
This isn't the best opener to an album but it fits its role. Rising power has a great tune, but the lyrics don't make sense. You listen and try to make out what Brian is trying to say.
This House is On Fire 3/5
Nothing really to say about this one. It's got a nice riff and great vocals by Brian.
Flick of the Switch 5/5
Now here is where it gets great! Flick of the Switch starts off with a great riff by Malcom and then Angus comes in with his part and it all comes together. Phil Rudd plays a role with drums, and the bass is present with Cliff. This song is unforgettable and one of the best, personally.
Nervous Shakedown 4.5/5
This song is killer, I love it! How'd this one get loss in AC/DC's songs, just forgotten like that? This should seriously be in the top 10 of AC/DC songs. But let's get to the point, the song starts off with killer drums by Phil Rudd, then a riff by Angus. Brian's lyrics are so real that you feel your standing right there in the picture. Brian guttering and screeching vocals just make this song. "Freeze said the man cruising to the beat, put your hands up and spread your feet". Just a story of how someone makes his way to prison.
Landslide 6/5
Here's another one just like Nervous Shakedown. This is the song that makes you wanna get up and dance the night away. This boogie rock song just hits you like a bag of bricks. The killer riff that just goes on and on that doesn't get old. Brian's voice in this one sounds a little bit like Judas Priest's Rob Hatflid, but hey it's killer. This is probably Brian's most throat fierced song on the album. This is 10/10 for me!
Guns for Hire 5/5
There's nothing negative about this one, this is a classic and one of their bests. I don't understand how this album is so underrated? These tunes are just amazing, it's almost as AC/DC didn't even need to make this. Like just a waste of time. But Guns for Hire shows what AC/DC is, the hard riffs, great drums, impeccable vocals. What could beat this?
Deep in the Hole 2/5
Big disappointment on this one. I really don't even want to go into it, it's ashame this is even on the album. I mean ok they needed something to complete it but they could have put in more work to it.
Bedlam in Belgium 4.5/5
Aww man I love this one. One time when AC/DC played in Belgium they broke the sound limit and curfew time and were forced to stop playing. "There's a curfew in town, and you be working overtime". Cops came to stop it but AC/DC had different plans, forces tried to stop but Bon kept going and wanted to ride on. They even started to grab Angus and tried to throw him off, "There was a cop with a gun who was running around insane". Even though this happens in Bon Scotts era, Brian made it seem like you were standing there watching it happend and he also had so much depth in his lyrics "He gave me a crack in the back with his gun, hurt me so bad I could feel the blood run". But after all killer tune and great moral. Nice work on this one.
Badlands 3/5
Badlands is almost similar to Landslide with its boogie 70s riff. I like this song because of its riff, lyrics are a little confusing but great vocals by Brian.
Brain Shake 4/5
To end the album, I say this is a great one. This one is also similar to landslide with its Boogie rock, the screech of Brian couldn't get any better it just makes the song. Malcom does a great job with the rhythm and angus parts well with his riff.
