Review Summary: As repetitive as it is, Spoken's heaviest Rock album shows improvement.

Spoken's latest album, "Breathe Again", shows the band trying to get a heavier, more nu-metalish kind of sound and I would definetly say is an improvement from "Illusion", the band's previous album. Fast paced rhythms and more emotion from Matt Baird, the lead, are more on this album than any other.

As much of an improvement as this is, Spoken just sounds a bit too...familiar with this album, not like in originality, but like the same drum beats and riffs are somewhat evident on here. Even some of the songs on "Breathe Again" have similar sounds, take "All I Wanted" and "Hollow and Untrue" for example, although I find the latter to be a great song, it's difficult sometimes to differentiate between the two - especially since they play right after each other.

Repetetiveness is the issue here, and the album fails at parts because of it, but while some beats are nearly identical, none of them are terrible or bad or anything. Don't get me wrong, I love the majority of songs on here, but they could've cut almost half the content and still give me the same amount of satisfaction. The slower songs on this album such as "Memories Are Alive" are quite deep lyrically and really are where this album shines, and it's because this is where the band departs from their past content of immediate, Heavy and fast beats, where I'm actually wanting too hear the next lyric and can really jam to some stuff on here.

The album has an intro and an outro track, where the intro gives a small build-up to one of the singles, "Walking in My Dreams". The outro gives a more subtle ending to the last song "Take My Breath Away" - Which, is probably the lightest song on here, but let me warn you, always listen to the outro track after "Take My Breath Away", or else the song would just end out of nowhere.
This could also sort of be a problem, because the first and last song on this album sort of require their respective intro and outro, or else you'll just feel incomplete.

Never the less, Spoken has given a worthy amount of effort for their latest album. Most of the tracks such as "Falling Apart", "Beyond The Stars" and "Walking in My Dreams" are probably the heaviest you'll get on "Breath Again", just in case that's what you're looking for.

Stand-Outs
"Walking in My Dreams"
"Memories Are Alive"
"Hollow and Untrue"
"Take My Breath Away"+"Outro"

This album is stunningly forgettable... especially considering that their last album was quite good.

this band has quite a large amount of LPs. Just hearing my first song from them. It's off this. Falling Apart. Pretty good. With the comparisons on the sputnik band page to Secret and Whisper I'm willing to try the whole discography
