Review Summary: A solid debut studio album from Atreyu.

This is my first review on this site and I just recently listened to this album so I said, "Why not write your first review?" So here I am.

Atreyu is a metalcore band formed in 1998. Suicide Notes and Butterfly Kisses is their debut studio album put out on Victory Records, following two independently released EPs. SNaBK is a fairly good debut album but the band would improve on their later works. The drumming from Brandon Saller is fairly average but nothing special. It is Saller's clean vocals that really shine. His voice is just excellent. The vocals from Alex Varkatzas are decent but his screams sound rather strange compared to other metalcore vocalists. And, his lyrics aren't so great. For example, "Yesterday I forgot to breathe for like the 6th time this week." What? How does one forget to breathe for like the 6th time? Anyways, the rest of the band is solid, especially the guitar duo of Dan Jacobs and Travis Miguel. The leads on this album are awesome. The rhythm guitar and bass are also solid besides the fact that I could barely hear Chris Thompson's bass. The production by Eric Rachel is, like the whole album, solid but nothing special.

So, is there a better way you could spend 37 minutes? Yeah but there's also worse albums to listen to for 37 minutes. All in all, a solid first effort.
