Review Summary: Jay Rock excites with new album

Who is Jay Rock" Out of all the members that compose Black Hippy he is the most burdened by the lack of a defining album. Flashback to a few years ago when TDE was first shaking down the rap industry for a complete take over and it felt like Jay Rock, even if his debut album was the first move in the assault, was left behind in the wake of his cohort’s extraordinary releases.

If Jay Rock was to survive he needed to change, expand his parameters.

With 90059 Jay Rock is at the most energetic and emotionally invested in his career thus far. This record had been coming for a long time and when it finally arrived, Jay Rock crafted a beautiful extension of his character.

First paragraph sums up my feelings on Jay Roq to a tee. I'll give this a shot though. My only hangup is the production sounding like ASAPs latest.

The biggest problem of the album is that it's just okay/good. After all the guest verses in the last years and the botched album rollout I was expecting a lot more. Still a good effort, just not enough.
