Review Summary: The Bohicas don't try to be anything but fast, energetic and fun on their debut indie rock record, and that's perfectly fine.
"The Making Of" is the debut indie rock album by UK band The Bohicas. On their debut, these guys show lots of potential and talent with the driving bluesy guitars throughout the album. Tracks like "To Die For", "Girlfriend" & "Where You At" are energy driven indie rockers. This band isn't afraid to show their roots from blues to stoner-esque rock to indie pop. This album isn't anything mind blowing or pushing any boundaries but it's a solid indie record full of punk energy and poppy choruses. The title track encases an energetic guitar solo in the middle and helps show "what could be" for this UK four piece. The vocals are decent but actually fit well to accompany the instrumentals and add a soulful tune to each track. My only issue with the album are the drums and versatility. The drums are pretty simplistic throughout most of the songs and really accentuate the more pop side of the record. While the rest of the band add a post-punk revival/indie rock feel(Think Pre-Suck It & See Arctic Monkeys energy). While this record is good, it isn't chalk full of versatility and usually follows the same formula track to track. The lyrics get repetitive at times but you're going to have kinks and missteps in a debut album, let's just hope they aren't victim to the sophomore slump. It's a "good time at a concert" record but isn't one I'd put on for a late night drive. It's meant to make you feel good, not think, and that's OK. These guys aren't trying to be anything more than a fun band to listen too.
Like I said before, this album shows the fast energy these guys can deliver to their live shows and is somewhat of a breath of fresh air from an otherwise "lack of strong guitars" indie pop rock genre.
