Review Summary: A tighter sounding more well written effort than their previous work though it lacks the raw energy that can be found on their previous releases. Deathcore, metalcore, and basically any "core" genre always seem to get a lot of hate, which is understandable. There are plenty of generic, bland and plain sounding bands within the genres of deathcore, metalcore, etc..., so standing out can prove a challenge. Suicide Silence have done a good job of standing out, though their music is far from perfect, and in my opinion, this album stands out the most when compared to the albums they put out before it.
A welcome change is the use of less breakdowns, which effectively help the band sound more original. The guitar and bass parts are also tighter, and the playing is cleaner and more organized, and the drums are more memorable. The vast majority of the vocals are high screams which is a shift from their previous efforts that I feel suits the album, though I do miss the guttural and low vocals seen in earlier works. The lyrical content on this album could have been better, but I feel it is superior to that of previous efforts.
One thing more observant listeners may notice is the fact that the track "March To The Black Crown" divides the album into two halves, the first half being arguably more memorable and more well written. In fact, every track from the first half is well written and memorable. Following the first half, the second half isn't quite as good as the first half, but still has its moments. Tracks like "Witness The Addiction" and "The Only Thing That Sets Us Apart" really help hold the album together.
However, this is not their most recent release. As of writing this review, their vocalist Mitch Lucker has passed away and they have released an album titled "You Can't Stop Me" with vocalist Eddie Hermida. Looking back, it would have been nice to see the direction the band would have progressed in if vocalist Mitch Lucker had remained a part of the band, as it seems the band were o the way to perfecting a certain sound in the near future.
In all, the album is a good release and though it has its weak points, it still holds together and is a good listen. Would definitely recommend it to any fan of the deathcore genre.

For starters, your intro can be found on a few dozen different reviews for core band.....including a few of mine. Point is, it's a bit overdone. It's not a problem since it's your first but in future try not to resort to that too often. It's a moot point and stale in retrospect.
"A welcome change is the use of less breakdowns, which effectively help the band sound more original."
try thinking about what you're saying. breakdowns really don't contribute in any way to originality. A lot of bands use them, but a lot of bands don't. What a lack of them would contribute to is perhaps a less monotonous songwriting or less predictable structure. Just because you don't use as many breakdowns doesn't make you more original.
"The guitar and bass parts are also tighter, and the playing is cleaner and more organized, and the drums are more memorable. "
overusing "and". Try "The guitar and bass parts are also tighter, the playing is cleaner and more organized, and the drums are more memorable."
"The vast majority of the vocals are high screams which is a shift from their previous efforts that I feel suits the album, though I do miss the guttural and low vocals seen in earlier works."
not really a review critique, but are you sure about that? I remember him using plenty of gutturals. Also you could omit "and low" because it's a bit redundant.
"The lyrical content on this album could have been better, but I feel it is superior to that of previous efforts."
could be expanded on. Doesn't really say why they're better to an extent.
"In fact, every track from the first half is well written and memorable."
redundant, I'd just omit entirely.

not really needed in any way. You could relegate it to a single sentence in passing, but as a paragraph it distracts, disrupts, and sends the review out on a weak note.
I think you started off strong enough, but as you got deeper in you got a bit weaker. Could use some more solid descriptions to really give an idea of what the albums sounds like.
Posing for effort.

I agree with 'tighter sounding', but not sure about 'more well written'.
review could do with some tightening, also what game said [3]
good effort.
love the avatar Artuma
| | | best username, all my favourite bands!
but yeah review is pretty sloppy in places. Get your next one proofread on the forums perhaps?
| | | Now that I look over it it is a bit vague, could use some more examples
Username could do with some work too
| | | Haha my dumb all 5 or al 1 ratings got wiped. Good thing IMO it was a mistake doing that, should go back and actually give them what they deserve as a rating (be it better or worse than the original rating). Anyway thanks for all the constructive criticism if I ever review more albums, which I'm sure I will, I'll definitely come back and look at people's feedback again. Btw no, Avenged Sevenfold, Black Veil Brides and Five Finger Death Punch are not my favourite bands, but I like A7X and BVB a lot.
| | | Btw anyone know how to change username?
