Review Summary: Aries Marquis connects the dots between neo-soul to old school and makes the ladies swoon along the way (at least this reviewer).
The point at which neo-soul meets old school is the place where Aries Marquis' "Imperfections" begins. At times slick and polished, while at other times a bit rough and edgy, it's aimed to please the lovers of R&B and the hip-hop crowd. All in all it's downright romantic, and as this girl will tell you, the ladies love romance.
Of the 6 songs on this album the ones that really got my motor purring were the following. "Touching" celebrates both the pre and post-coital cuddling that we women adore, those magical butterfly kisses that lovers love to give to one another, and the hugs and handholding for those who've successfully made it past the "friend zone" barrier that sometimes keep us apart.
"Love Me for Me" expresses the simple sentiment that we females wished our male companions would share with us more often. "Baby, just love me for me/I'm just a man/I cannot do all things; just the best I can/I am imperfect, and so full of flaws/But all I'm praying for is your love thru it all". Contrary to the themes expounded in many popular songs, those of us with XX chromosomes don't really give much of a hoot about heroes, cowboys, and billionaires. What we really want most of the time from our XY counterparts is honesty and openness.
"Just Us" turns the "bros before hoes" boy's club upside down on its head with the simple confession of, "When it's just us/That's all I ever really want it to be/Our love's enough/To bring forth the gifts of life abundantly/And both of us/Are bonded together/Yet we feel free/My search is done/You're all I want". Admit it my sisters, this brother's got our number.
So if you've been wondering where we can find a man like Aries Marquis the search is easier than imagined. He's been right there and waiting for us all along on none other than good old FaceBook: FaceBook.com/AriesMarquis. The wait is finally over!
