Review Summary: Ever tried to shred before you even knew how to play scales?

Chaos.

Maybe it is a little pretentious dedicating an entire paragraph to a single word, but this is a short EP and thus, short-cuts shall be taken. If you are unaware of the monstrosity that is Pyrrhon, this EP will probably come as quite a jolt to the system. With two widely acclaimed (within the sphere of people who actually listened to them) LPs, it would seem Pyrrhon are the masters of their sound. This EP, while a little less focused than their previous LPs, is still an enjoyable experience if you can stomach auditory vomit.

In order to do this review any sense of justice, I should inform the uninformed as to what Pyrrhon sound like. *clears throat* Atonal, off-beat, and damn angry. Vocals are a combination of LSD-laced, droning and high, gurgled screams that will most definitely make you uncomfortable. Guitar work is a mix of awful picking sounds and excessive riffing. For the untrained ear, Pyrrhon and this EP sound a lot like the header of this review. Drumming is the standout in this particular EP. It is disruptive at all times, constantly changing in flow, but near seamlessly.

It is hard to review anything from Pyrrhon as they desire to leave you feeling uncomfortable. The strength of the level of insanity that plagues a listener can vary drastically. In comparison to previous Pyrrhon works, this is not their strongest effort. The first four tracks do succeed in causing discomfort, but are a shortcoming against their LPs which spice things up with differences in dynamic range and pacing. The cleaner mix is also a slight detriment to the overall experience when placed against 'The Mothers of Virtue' LP. However, EP closer, 'Turing's Revenge' is a brilliant experience that should be cranked to max and played only when the voices in your head start showing their ugly faces.

Pyrrhon have left me a little more comfortable than I am used to by their standards. But it is important knowing that Pyrrhon make me most remarkably uncomfortable and this is a solid effort on their part. If you are feeling particularly angry today, I could not recommend this (or the rest of their short discography) enough. Just listen with caution. You may feel symptoms of moral ambiguity in the days to follow.

What do you guys think of this EP? And what are your thoughts on Pyrrhon's previous works? Regardless of what you listen to, I dare- *cough* highly recommend you check out 'The Mothers of Virtue'.

Take care, captains!

I haven't heard these guys but honestly your description of this EP is what I imagine their sound to be like, chaos just for the sake of chaos. That just sounds messy and uninspired to me
Good review man

titanslayer, your avatar describes both the sound of the band and the reaction that the majority of common folk might have listening to it xD It is a great deal of hard work to listen to, i'll give it that! Thanks for the comment!
