Review Summary: Alchohol and Necropunk!!!
I've been a Fukpig fan for about three years now. In that time period I've been able able to hear the ups and downs, and ins and outs of the band's works. Most if not all the records they have put out so far have been pretty damn good. But none of them come close to this monster of an album. It is easily their best work and has heightened my hopes that the band will continue to make killer works like this in the future. Comedic political lyrics, harsh guitars, intense vocals and classic punk drumming can all be found in one place. Here.
For starters the musical composition is amazing. It's shockingly catchy for a Fukpig album and adds on to that by keeping consistency with it instead of dropping catchy tunes after a couple of tracks. The guitars sound really raw as well with a very in your face harsh sound that the band is known for. Keeping a lot of grind elements in the way it is executed. Plus a major little detail often overlooked, there is in fact a bass guitar that you can actually ***ing hear!!!!! Like most bands it does just play the bass tune of the guitar riffs but it is equalized enough that you can still make it out clearly. Hell, in the song "The Prisoner" there is a stand alone bass riff which is a rare and awesome jewel. The vocals are also something to be proud of. They are screamed, but clear enough that most of the time you will not need lyrics right there with you to have a clue what they're saying. Vocals are not quite as in your face as the previous works from Fukpig because they are turned down enough that you don't have them blaring directly in your face.
Following up on the equalization part, there is no part of the production that is louder than the other. Every instrument recorded is very clear and contrasted to the other and the vocals as I mentioned are in line with the instruments. All of this is a huge improvement from what the band has recorded in the past, delivering a much more listenable and clear sound. It does still sound harsh, as it is supposed to, but it's much easier on the ears.
Being a perfect album through in through I'd highly recommend this to just about anyone that is a metal fan. So basically if you are reading this you should give this a listen. There could not be a better way to kick off listening to Fukpig than this.
Album highlights: "Alchohol and Necropunk", "The Prisoner", "This World is Weakening", and "The Eulogy of a Crushed Romantic".
