Review Summary: Over time, people usually change. Unfortunately, Hollywood Undead don't.

My history with Hollywood Undead is pretty straightforward, I was a simple minded 14 yearold white boy who thought listening to bands like HU made me "tough" and "gangsta". Over the past almost 4 years, I've widened my musical pallet and left HU behind, but like a lot of bands you discover at that age, you still have attachment to them. So, when I saw they had a new album out I said "why not". Oh boy, was I in a for a rude awakening.

The album actually starts off decently enough, with Usual Suspects being just a usual HU brag song, but nothing awful, except maybe the autotuned chorus. How We Roll is actually a pretty good and catchy song, nothing special, but you can groove to it. Unfortunately the album hits a wall of wtf with War Child, an unbearably stupid party song with an annoying beat, stupid lyrics, and that repeats the title so many times despite the fact it makes no sense. Then there's Why Does Everybody In The World Have To Die, which might be the worst song I've heard this year, with a horrible beat, Johnny droning on with an annoying monotone. It's just all around an unpleasant song to listen to.

Vocally, the band is ok, aside from songs like WDEITWHTD and Party By Myself. The only thing that really captures your attention is the choruses by Danny like on How We Roll. Everyone else is fine I guess, but they all sound so bored and like they'd rather be anywhere else.
Lyrically, this album is just atrocious. It's either horrible party songs about drinking, drugs, and sex, or vague "introspective" songs about hope and society, and it sounds so phoned in.

I would be lying if I said I was expecting this album to be great, but I had hope that they would continue from Notes From The Underground, where they at least sounded like they wanted to be more serious. When it comes down to it, I've grown up, but unfortunately it seems Hollywood Undead have not.

Distinctly remember watching the video for "hollywood Undead" on Kerrang! a good few years ago, but apart from that I've heard absolutely nothing else by the band. I guess they're one of those one-hit groups who think they're doing something musically fresh when in actual fact there's a handful doing the same thing.

Great review, pos'd. Just one thing I thought I'd note:

"Lyrically, this album is just atrocious. It's either horrible party songs about drinking, drugs, and sex, or vague "introspective" songs about hope and society, and it sounds so phoned in." Nothing wrong with this sentence at all, but I would have liked a couple of examples just to support the point. Aside from that, nice work.

I've always loved these dudes, dunno why. Probably cuz I was raised on Linkin Park. But whatever.

This is definitely their weakest effort. The party songs are awful, which is not surprising as the dudes are pushing 30. Its very clear that they put them on just to satisfy those still clinging to the party anthems on Swan Songs. They need to let go of that and just write some serious tunes. Day of the Dead is a legitimately good song, and something I'd love to hear on rock radio if I still listened to that shit.

Overall, take those filler tracks out and the excruitiatingly awful "Does Everyone Have to Die..." and its still a pretty good record IMO. But I know thats definitely the unpopular opinion here when it comes to bands like this.

Back on track though, the review isn't bad. Real short and a few grammatical issues here and there but overall solid. POS'd.

I like the band honestly, Swan Songs was cool, saw them live a little while ago and they were fun. Might check this, don't have much hope for it though. Review is pretty thin, not much depth or information really.

I dig this review. Sure it's kinda short and thin but so is the album. He pretty much painted a perfect picture.

Nah. And I've actually only heard like two songs by these guys, so that's hyperbole. But everything about them is just terrible.
