Review Summary: Intense Old School Black Metal sure to please any fans of the genre.
Just by looking at the cover you can tell what you're in for, raw heavy crushing Black Metal that manages to stand out from the majority of average forgettable bands in the scene.
Behexen are a Finnish Black Metal band which have released a handful of great albums in their time, this is by far their best in terms of musical quality. Behexen dont do anything even remotely new or original in this album, yet still manage to create an engaging Black Metal Classic from start to finish.
This is very intense fast-paced Black Metal in comparison to other bands of the same genre. The vocals consist of high pitched screeches, yet unlike most vocals you would expect in an album like this they remain very understandable. The production is by no means clean sounding but it is by far more listenable than the majority of Black Metal. The guitars are what you would expect from an album such as this, very fast, harsh and distorted yet they never sound like an underproduced wall of worthless noise, managing to play Raw Traditional Black Metal riffs with grooves, melody and aggression. The drumming is intense throughout mostly consisting of blast beats, yet never becoming a mindless blast-fest such as an album like Panzer-Division by Marduk.
This if a very intense, straightfoward Black Metal album which would undoubtly satisfy any fans of this style of Extreme Music.
Recommended to fans of Traditional Black Metal of any kind.
