Review Summary: Fool me once, shame on you. As corny as it’s going to sound, Fool’s Gold is a rather unfitting title for Andrew W. Gold’s solo debut. Not because it’s the aural form of real gold, but because Fool’s Gold implies a sense of trying to create a cheap, inferior form of something much greater than what you’ll ever be able to find. And while it’s certainly not the most original collection of glitchy electronic tracks, Fool’s Gold is still a solid album. “Into the Heart of a Robot” features a dark, crunchy bassline alongside mysterious, ethereal synths; and “IG-88” moves in favor of groovier bass and a steady, almost robotic drum beat. Alternatively, “Lunesta” is the mellowest song off the album, with calm, distant synthesizers and a relaxed, almost dreamlike melody on what sounds like either a xylophone or wind chimes, all building up into a soothing orchestral piece as an outro. The title track serves as the album closer, with a futuristic atmosphere and an unnerving but simultaneously intriguing aspect all around. It feels eerily reminiscent of one of those cheesy intro songs for a 90’s crime drama. Truth be told, while Fool’s Gold is far from the musical structure for real gold, it’s definitely at least a fine grade of silver.

Thanks, dude. Glad you liked it. It's always a little more nerve-wracking when the dude who made the music is gonna be reading your review, haha.
| | | taking the time to review it is enough satisfaction believe me. the fact that its a positive and well written review just makes it all the better! i think other sput artists can attest to that

Aye. I can imagine. I really needed to get back into the habit of writing, and I saw that some of the other prominent reviewers on the site (Fripp, Mark, etc) had started writing short, concise reviews for good user-made albums, so I figured, why not give your album a quick writeup?
| | | yeah, doing that really kills a hard writer's block. It's essential that any writer do this kind of write-up every once in a while as a tuneup of sorts.
| | | I like that you called IG-88 robotic because IG-88 is the robot bounty hunter from empire strikes back

@Fripp Yeah, I've been there before as well.
@Cap Aye.
@Lloyd That was actually unintentional, but it looks a lot more brilliant that way now that you mention it.
| | | I may try this style with the Ichiko Aoba live album, because I can't think of anything for the life of me and I need to really justify that 5 rating without sounding stupid as hell i.e. all these Kendrick reviews
| | | good stuff, ins. good review, too.

@tempest: glad I'm not the only one getting that reference.
| | | isn't andrew gold a contrib here? is this his project?
nice review, short and sweet. short reviews always make me think the album is short too and that's always a plus, might check this one out
