First of, im not that familiar with
King Diamond, ive only heard this album and some other songs, so im not going to write any background info about the band because i dont know anything, except that before he was
King Diamond he had a band called
Mercyful Fate, thats all i know about this guy.....Ok so at first the vocals annoyed me a lot, i didnt liked he’s type of singing, but that type of voices are growers for me, as the same thing i said about Dani Filth was, “he sings like if someone punched him in the balls”, but hey now i like a lot that type of singing, the one thing im awared of is that every King Diamond album tells a sort of tale or something, in this case, its no different, it talks about Abigail LaFey, a girl who was dead and suddenly camed back to life and started doing evil, awesome story actually.....
The first “track”,
FUNERAL is a dude saying:
Quote:
”Abigail must be nailed to her coffin with 7 silver spikes, 1 through each arm, hand and knee, and let the last of the 7 be drawn through her mouth so that she may never rise and cause evil again”
|
, quite frightening if you ask me, after he says that song ends and on
starts the real album opener
ARRIVAL starts with an awesome guitar riff by mike and with KD saying ‘That Must be it”, these song is filled with fast riffs by Mike and Andy, and the high pitched vocals of KD, it has 3 blistering solos, and it tells the beggining of the story about Abigail LaFey, of how [i]Miriam Natias[/b] and
Jonathan LaFey arrived at this Mansion, as they stared at the window they could see 7 horsemen, one of them came from the dark and told them to go away, if they refused then 18 will become 9....but they refused and keeped on heading towards the mansion....pretty awesome this track is....
4/5
A MANSION IN DARKNESS starts with another blistering riff from i think its Andy, then KD’s voice comes in telling the next part of the story. the chorus is awesome, very catchy:
Quote:
”And the shadows at the gate, they seemed to be alive, yeah the shadows at the gate, ALIVE”
|
, this track tells how Miriam and Jonathan keep going up the alley until they saw a giant shadow, it was a house where evil ruled at night, as they maked there way in to this mansion, they realized that everything inside was left untouched, so they fought their way until every room was lit again....but when they where asleep they didnt realize that there was a shadow on the wall that came alive.....the song ends with a solo played by Andy.....
4/5
Next is one of my favorites,
THE FAMILY GHOST, wich starts with a standard riff that “transforms” into a solo by Andy, the chorus is dominated by the vocal changes, first he sings like a girl than he makes this cool growls, wich sooth the song perfectly. This song talks about how the family ghost rised again just when Miriam was asleep but Jonathan’s faced went white. The ghost then told Jonathan not to be scared, as he/she is
Count de LaFey, he/she then took Jonathan to the crypt down below....WHERE ABIGAIL RESTS!!!!, he then showed him a sarcophagus of a child, it was Abigail, the Count then told Jonathan that the spirit of Abigail was inside of his wife and he needed to kill her to stop the rebirth of evil.....the song ends with KD’s voice fading out saying: [i]”You must take her life now”[/i}......
4/5
Next up is another great track.....
THE 7TH DAY OF JULY 1777 starts with acoustic guitars playing another riff full of darkness, and it is played by Andy, but soon the electric guitars and a little solo will kick in as well as KD’s vocals, the vocals sound a little of time, but thats good hahaha, it fits very well. The song talks about the bastard baby that Count de LaFey’s wife was going to have, but he refused to let that happened and pushed his wife down the stairs and she broke her neck, the embryo came out dead and he burned his wife and gave the embryo a name:
Abigail, then he mummified the girl for the future to find.....the song ends with the chorus
Quote:
”So he pushed her down the stairs to die....”NO” she cried in 1777, on the 7th day of July”

OMENS is an average track, its with a fast riff and suddenly KD’s vocals come in saying:
Quote:
”Nobody’s inside the church but the bell is ringing, for no reason the flowers are dying”
|
, this song talks about Jonathan and Miriam at the dinning room, where Jonathan founded an empty cradle swaying in the air, but neither Jonathan nor Miriam brought it there, strange dont you think??, the song ends with KD saying “Oh, deadly omens”......
3.5/5
THE POSSESION is next, it starts with KD screaming the lyrics, then he changes his vocal style into a type of suffering vocals, at the middle of the song Andy brings an acoustic guitar and plays a fast riff but this is shortly before Mike plays another of his excellent solos.....this song is like the climax of the story, as it tells when Jonathan finally realized and accepted that miriam was indeed “pregnant”. So she started rocking the cradle saying,
”Im having your baby my love....love”, oh but it wasnt love, she was possessed. Suddenly, speaking with different tongues, Miriam was eaten alive from inside, saying again
”Im having your baby my love...my love”.....
4/5
Next up is a damm catchy vocal work from KD in
ABIGAIL, it quickly opens up with a powerfull riff, and a solo comes up played by Mike, the song also offers some sweet synth’s work by KD, in the song, KD tells you about how Abigail gained control of Miriam’s brain, he then realized that Miriam was long gone so he took Abigail to the stairs, where she will be “reborn”, the song ends with KD saying,
”I am alive inside your wife, Miriam’s dead, i am her head...Soon i’ll be free!!!”...
4/5
BLACK HORSEMEN starts with an acoustic solo played by Mike, this is another weak spot of the album, it isnt as good as the others, but it is indeed a good song, this has some of my favorite lyrics, theyre full of darkness....
Quote:
”On this sacred night the soul of Miriam was crying out in pain remembering the day, arrival in the rain. The pain of labour was so strong that Miriam died, the final seeing was a pair of yellow eyes, you can still hear her screaming if youre walking the stairs in July”
|
.....The song talks about how finally Abigail was born again, but suddenly the 7 horsemen would arrive and would find Abigail in the sarcophagus....EATING!.....then the Count told the 7 horsemen’s:
Quote:
”Take her...and bring her to the chapel in the forest. So go now...the ceremony and the coffin’s waiting”
|
.....Awesome album ending trully a KD masterpiece......
4/5
This is a very sick and twisted tale told by a sick and twisted mind behind that makeup.....KING DIAMOND, a brilliant man and musician.....2 thumbs way up for these album.....Peace out
