Review Summary: Very well done, but where can we go from here?

I think the reason people hate Skrillex is not because of the cacophonous tone of his songs, but more because it seems that he can get so much out of so little. And nowhere is that more clear when with Recess, where every track is delivered with finesse, grace, and head-detonating drops, but at the same time, seems like a real, raw set of dubstep, jungle, electro and even k-pop. But there is an underlying problem that seems to undermine it.

Right out of the gate, "All is Fair in Love and Brostep" impacts with explosive impact with barely-audible lyrics from the roaring Ragga Twins, and while the drop is ripped from Zomboy's "Terror Squad", it still works in a way. Throughout most of the album, there's an aura of "stick it to the man" and an aggressive tone, most prominent in "Recess", "Ragga Bomb", and "F*** That". That's not a bad thing, though. That's basically dubstep and/or brostep in a nutshell. But, this album isn't without its problems.
The main issue with Recess is its lack of focus. Do we want to go jungle? Big, heavy, dubstep jams? Cool, chilling electro? Hell, even k-pop? I guess the album is tied in with a vaguely dub-y sound, but it feels a little like Sonny fired a shotgun at a board of genres and just picked the ones that got hit. Weirdly enough, this is the kind of thing that I would expect him and Diplo to release through Jack Ü. At least they have an excuse.

Overall, Recess isn't bad, but Bangarang was better. Hopefully, he can either clean it up with Diplo or just make his next album more streamlined, because I began to smell this all the way back when I heard Breakn' a Sweat, which, by the way, is epic. If not, I may have to start dropping things to 2's.

AHAHAHAHHA

Weirdly enough, this is the kind of thing that I would expect him and Diplo to release through Jack Ü. At least they have an excuse.

This statement seems like a bad one to include, or a bad one to not expand upon. Considering there are people (like me) who won't understand the reference and wouldn't be able to distinguish what it's point it.

Also, this review seems pretty bad in the state it is right now. You barely manage to talk about anything on here besides a few shout outs to three songs having an aggressive tone. But you even said that one of the songs ripped off another song from an artist and said that was OK without telling how said blatant unoriginality is OK.

I won't neg you, but this is a review that needs a lot of work. Especially if its going to be the site's first positive review and a review with a 3.5/5

Well then, last time I checked this album the only reviews were the 1.5 and the 2.0 reviews.

Still, I believe what I said still stands.

You seem conflicted in your opinion on this album. Overall your review holds an awful lot of criticism on
Recess to rate it 3.5; it sounds more like a 2.5.

"Right out of the gate, "All is Fair in Love and Brostep" impacts with explosive impact"

Might want to change that

but more because it seems that he can get so much out of so little.

This needs more explanation, especially because his "ability" to make the same song roughly 20 times with the same sample pack somewhat contradicts this idea

but at the same time, seems like a real, raw set of dubstep, jungle, electro and even k-pop.

From this sentence I've gathered that you don't know what jungle and electro are. Also, cue obligatory "real dubstep" reactions

Uh, no

I guess the album is tied in with a vaguely dub-y sound,

I've also gathered that you don't know what dub is either

This is a swamp of commas, continuity errors and redundancy. Read this out loud to yourself and then give it an edit.
