Review Summary: Truly an absorbing, terrifying experience, the kind only dark ambient music can give you, Yen Pox created an absolute classic masterwork of spacey, hellish sound, that is for whatever reason, overlooked on this site.

Before this album my familiarity with ambient music was, for the most part, confined to whether or not it would be utilised to add another dimension to a bands sound, straight up ambient on it's own was a foreign concept to me. All that changed with my exposure to Yen Pox, and as far as introductions to the genre go, you couldn't go wrong with New Dark Age, in fact its the best choice to start here. Maybe a good way to imagine how this band sounds is to imagine hell as if it existed in space, indeed, if it was space.

The twisted blend of immersive and spacious sounds are both grounded and cosmic, indeed having a sort of earthly like quality to them but at the same time you imagine yourself drifting in the far reaches of the void, the music is that effective, why these guys haven't been recruited to make soundtracks for horror movies and games bewilders me. The epitome of the bands sound however can be found on the epic "Blood From The Heavens" an eleven minute trip than builds to a whaling chorus (if you will) which conjures up a terrifying atmosphere almost unrivalled not just in ambient music, but music in general, indeed this is why ambient music stands in a league of its own, if you've got the time, and the patience, if you let the sounds build, the reward is immense.
