The first time I heard MC Chris I was half naked in front of my computor. I won't lie when I say I thought he was a horrible unfunny joke (when I heard DQ Blizzard). I then clicked on his imperial senate skits which are only downloadable at his website www.mcchris.com and I replayed the longest one (9:09) again and again.
It was one of the funniest things I had ever heard. Just the names they gave each other ("Jackie The Hutt", "IG89", and of course "Darth gggggg-kuuuh Doodicle") made me laugh. This skit made me realize that MC Chris must be at least half joking about his music.
It was finally time to give DQ Blizzard another chance. As cheesy as it may seem to some, there is nothing better to listen to while playing stick rpg on albinoblacksheep.com.
I downloaded this whole CD off of his website along with the imperial senate skits and realized for the first time how well his high-pitched voice goes with the beats he raps in. The music is definatly half the reason I decided to give MC Chris a second chance.
A lot of this CD is just skits made with his answering machine. I wonder if anyone has ever called his number...hmmm. Anyways I will give a review on the actual songs while saying this about the skits: They are hilarious. One makes fun of an eminem skit while another is guy giving MC Chris a pathetic reason for them to hangout, something like him finding a word that ryhmes with engine. Good stuff right there, ok now to the songs.
DQ BLIZZARD
The first song I ever heard by MC Chris that I passed up at first thinking that he was the worst thing my ears had ever listened to. The music in it however is completely original and mixes with a tom drum beat which sounds phenominal and makes this the best song on this CD...ok ok I know Fett's Vette is good but hold up. This song also introduces MC Chris's first use of female vocals which would be used again in the song "Geek". It also has the "Talk It" program voicing which he uses in a good ten of his songs, maybe more.
THE TUSSIN (ROBOTUSSIN)
This song is alright overall. It has a videogame like beat which is another step into the newly founded "nerdcore" genre. My favorite part of this song besides some of the funny/random lines is the end where MC Chris is throwing up in the background behind his chorus where he sings, not a "Talk It" program voice.
***IN' UP MY CHRISTMAS
This is the first song in which he has audio clips from other peoples work. In this case it's some stand up by Steve Martin which is also at the end. This song uses the "Talk It" program for the chorus. I don't even know if it is talk it but it's definatly not human. The piano in the background makes the instrumental awsome. MC Chris also does an Eminem style by screachign over his own words with weird phrases. EX. "Opening up the closet like that kid in the 6th sense (I see dead people)". Overall this is a great holiday tune for any family and should be on a Christmas mix CD right next to "O Holy Night" and "12 days of Christmas".
FETT'S VETTE
Oooooh here we go. The song that brought MC Chris to his fame. This whole entire song is full of accurate facts on Star Wars but slightly twisted in the MC Chris way. This song can be found all over the internet on different websites and in games and videos (Star Wars Galaxies and DDR). This song officially pushed MC Chris into the category of "nerdcore".
I hope you all get as addicted to MC Chris as I did that one fateful night way back when. I also hope you enjoyed this review.
