Many people believe that Led Zeppelin's last great album was Physical Graffiti and the last 3 albums ( In Through The Out Door, Presense and Coda) conatain nothing too spectacular and are not worth listening to. I beg to differ, how can you love the songs: "Fool in the rain", "Poor Tom" or "Darlene", but im here to talk about Presence so here we go.
This album was made in a time when Zeppelin was experimenting with their music, unlike their previous albums thay used neither an acustic guitar or organ. The first song, "Achilles Last Stand", ranks right up there with "Stairway to Heaven" as one of their greatest songs Zeppelin ever created and is one of my altime favourites with a driving drum beat and penetraiting guitar used in an almost bluesy way but not quite what we have come to expect from them.
"For Your Life" shows Zeppelin's true blues roots, my absolute favorite part of this song is when you reach the 2 1/2 min. mark and Plant sings: "do you wanna, do you wanna do it when you wanna" and the the kind of cool riff that only Zeppelin could do that goes with it.
"Royal Orleans", What a cool song, so funky it makes you want to get up and dance, and a pure blues guitar solo that makes u fall in love with the song. Enough said
"Nobody's Fault but Mine", at first you think it will be one of the slower songs on the album but with Boneham's firm PAA! on the snare drum you know it with be much cooler.
O baby baby what a song "Candy Store Rock" is, its another of those songs that just makes you want to dance, but probably one of the weaker songs on the album, there is no real definition to it.
"Hots on For Nowhere" incorporates that signature stop start action and matching guitar and drum that Zeppelin has quite obviously mastered and if you dont believe me then listen to "Black Dog". "Nobody's Fault But Mine" also uses the same style of playing. One more thing about "Hots on For Nowhere" that I love are harmonies and near the end of this song and also how it tricks you with the ending, i just think thats really cool.
The final song, "Tea For One", starts off with some of the best riffing you will ever hear but then slows down into this really emotional bluesy song that may take you a few listens to really get into it but once you do you'l love it
recomended songs:
Achillies Last Stand
Royal Orleans
Hots On For NoWhere
Tea For One
