Review Summary: A breathtaking take on classic The Classic Crime.
Hold on for this one baby.
The Classic Crime has been pumping out incredible, beautiful, and catchy music for the past 10 years, and to celebrate they decided to go back through that decade and recreate some of their songs with a completely new sound. Man did they accomplish this well.
Unlike their previous albums, the band started a Kickstarter to raise funds themselves, they reached fully funded in a mere 5 hours.
The album starts out with "All of the Memories" an extremely fitting track to begin the album with a fantastic intro, then goes into a beautiful version of "You and Me Both" one of the two songs from 2012's Phoenix on this album. Songs from every Crime album finds it's way onto this one, but most come from their debut Albatross. Perhaps we will have to wait until Volume 2 to see some more tracks from The Sliver Cord and more recent discography. Still every single on of the songs redone on this album have something magic in them, the way they are remade is incredible and couldn't have been done any better. The fact that the band did this on their own in frontman Matt's garage is nothing short of impressive.
Tracks "Salt in the Snow" and "God and Drugs" both from The Silver Cord have a rejuvenated new sound to them that will leave fans of the originals in awe. Both driven by acoustic guitars and a strong strings presence they both really stand out on the album.
Matt's vocals here are as powerful and great as ever, and truly go along great with these acoustic masterpieces. At the end of the album as well we find a new song titled "Where Did you Go" which is a fantastic way of wrapping up this album.
The Classic Crime didn't make this album to keep fans happy, this feels like a completely new album with new tracks and unlike anything else the band has ever done. Fans of the band will surely love it and not forget it.
