Review Summary: Black Metal
Ok. What the hell. So here I was thinking Limp Bizkit was the tier 1 when it came to rap metal. Fred has actually been a father figure in many ways while I was growing up (don’t laugh). Yet to my shock, this whole time I have perhaps been WRONG? How the f.... did I miss BODY COUNT all these years?
So I was on YouTube looking at Limp Biz vids of them playing live and stuff. And as usual YouTube was spambarding me with recommendation vids. Well I clicked on one. It was called Body Count “Talk S***, Get Shot”... It was soo good. Like the riff, even though it was simple (I looked at the tab), it was still sweet. With mega tone and heaviness. Then I noticed who the heck was actually singing/rapping/being cool. It was ICE-T. Got to admit as far as aggression of the delivery of each lines, I’d say he is better than Durst. Yes. I said it. So anyway, this is actually the first song on the album so turns out it was a good place to start.
So I gave the rest of the album a listen. I was a bit worried because sometimes you hear this really awesome song and you think the band is gonna be epic, but it turns out that song was a fluke and the rest are just pish? Well this was not the case with MANSLAUGHTER. The whole album follows the trend of the first song. Heavy as hell guitars, insane agro lyrics from Ice-T and just all round menace from the band as a whole. Speaking of Ice-T, his lyrics are probably the best thing about this album. They are pretty Durstish, but yet still seem original. Most of the time he sings about killing people and being angry at stuff. But check this line out from song Pray for Death – “As I break through your skin and your flesh hits the ground. I dismember you slowly and feel your heart pound”.... Holy s***. As for the feel of the album the songs go from rap metal to thrash metal to punk metal(?). Seriously, not even Megadeth have done stuff like that. Anyway it’s getting late so I’m gonna finish this soon. Probably the best tracks are “Talk S***, Get Shot” and “Black Voodoo Sex” and easily “Institutionalised 2014” where Ice-T talks about wanting to play Xbox but his Mrs won’t let him.
So to sum up. Yeah if you’re a big fan of Limp Bizkit and such like check this out. Easily top class.
