Review Summary: Have you heard? It's a silent dream.

Radio Rock these days is a synonym to say "Wow, these bands suck". Radio friendly and repetitive melodies, love or anger lyrics, bland instrumental and songs that sound all the same. However, there's some gems in this type of music, and one of the greatest of them is the Australian Alternative Metal band Karnivool. These guys had some EPs before their first album that almost showed them going to this bland type of music, but thankfully, they launched "Themata".

Every song in here is an attempt to get the best aspects of their genre and put it on the biggest quality that it can have. The vocal melodies are so f*cking gorgeous, the lyrics are somewhat positive and so well written, the riffs are catchy and atmospheric at the same time, and while every song have a similar formula, it works every damn time. Orgasmic moments like the riff of the title track, or the bridge for "Cote" are some of the best moments in modern hard rock in the last years. The music has a feel good vibe and will make you jump and headbang at the same time, with its destroying riffs and superb chorus melodies alternating in the songs.

The album starts with the best example of this formula, "Cote". Its a beautiful and powerfully emotional song that features the best vocal performance on the album, and sweet crushing riffs that change between heavy and soft so wonderfully that will leave you speechless for its well crafted structure and melody. The title track features the catchiest riff on the album, and it is the full mode of everything Karnivool has to offer, with attacking verses and a strong melodic chorus. The other songs are replications of the well constructed formula of these two songs that still can leave your jaw on the floor with its creativity. Moments like the intro of "Lifelike" and the chorus of "Mauseum" are some of the best things the band(and the genre) can offer.

The guitars on this are so beautiful and strong, even if they aren't that complex, which isn't a bad thing by any means. It has a progressive influence that is a glimpse of the band's next works. The bass gives the wonderful atmosphere of the album, and it is heads above the genre peers. The drums are powerful and collaborate mainly with the heavy parts, giving it an edge of power that is stunning.
The vocals are the best part of the band, Ian's vocals are aggressively gorgeous and melodic at the same time, and it just pours emotion through every single track. Seriously, check out "Cote" and you will thank me later.

Karnivool worked with every single good aspect of their genre and pulled it together amazingly, giving their music strong dynamics and epic proportions. It puts them far and above their peers, and shows how good rock can be these days.
It's so good to see that music is alive.

Hmm review isn't bad but it needs a bit of work.

First of all, I don't know if I'd exactly call this radio rock. It's accessible yea, but that doesn't necessarily make it radio rock.

"Some good bands have came out of this genre, and I have to thank them, because without them maybe I wouldn't listen to what I listen today."

This sentence is a bit clunky and it reads like you left out some words. Try to split this up into two seconds maybe or better yet: Add "is" in between the "listen" and "today at the end if you don't want to split them up.

"You may be wondering why I gave them a perfect score, and I'll tell you why."

Haha man we know you're going to tell us. So there's really no need to even have this. Also, a 5 doesn't necessarily have to mean perfect, but I guess it does for you? Not really a flaw calling a 5 perfect but just saying.

"will leave you speechless for its well crafted, complex simplicity, if that makes any sense."

Ehh, doesn't really make sense honestly.

Also you're kinda all over the place talking about the band in your final paragraph. Merely comes off as a brief "oh and these guys are good too" part.

Despite these gripes I see lots of promise and you definitely worked hard on this. It's cliche but practice really does make perfect so keep at it!

I edited the things you said, maybe it's better now.

Thank you so much for pointing me the problems, I'll try

to make them less frequent in my next reviews. I was a

little afraid too, because it's my first 5 review and

maybe I could sound like a fanboy. My next objective is

to do a negative review, but i don't know yet which

album it will be.

One thing which I'd point out would be 'The music lift you up and makes you feel good at the same time' - both 'lift[s] you up' and 'makes you feel good' are the same thing really, so it's a bit of a weird read.

Also, 'even if they don't are that much complex' is awkward, try 'even if they aren't that complex'.

However, can't fault the choice of album which is truly magnificent, and you got your points across without being annoying so you're on the right track. Keep at it!

Not a bad review. you're clearly still finding your voice, but just keep practicing. try not to lump all of the info about guitars, bass, drums, and vocals into one category, especially for an album like this because there's something rather unique about each of their use on this album.

while living in Korea, this became one of my absolute favorite albums. i had to delete it from my itunes and ipod so i would actually pay attention to other bands

Review shows signs that you could become a decent writer, just keep posting them and taking on any constructive criticism that you receive. Great job.
I'd say you mention COTE too many times, seems like you're kinda stuck on that one song (although, it is the best on the album).
