Review Summary: "Scottish hardcore" band, War Charge, tells you "don't run your mouth around me and my crew." Therefore, I'm going to run my computer around them.
As part of the Review A Random Game 2014, I was assigned this lovely hardcore EP. It's a short 4-song collection about how hardcore this band is. And they are indeed, very hardcore. Yes, the riffs are riffy and the tempo is what you would expect from hardcore, but there is something more to it. These guys don't take no *** from anyone, and they don't let you forget it.
In the first song, "New World Justice," the singer-whose-name-I-could-not-find growls out, "Don't give a fuck about who knows you. You're just another sucka acting the fool. You look for trouble, shit we'll give it to you." Sound hardcore enough? There are many examples of this throughout the whole album, and it would be redundant to go through all of them. Lyrically, it's a punch in the gut, and not a classy one.
There are a couple of moments where the music actually shines, like the intro of "Mind Maker" or most of "Day & Age", but of an overwhelming amount of the the guitar work is chugging more than any true Scotsman. Their Facebook page would have me believing that this is a simple debut EP, and that they are capable of more. Perhaps they are, but until I hear more, I'll likely remain skeptical.
There's not a whole lot more to say about the album. If you can stomach lyrics like "You and I, we differ so. The biggest difference is that I would never stoop so low," then you will probably enjoy this. I found that they detracted away from what would otherwise be decent hardcore listening experience.
