Lorene Drive’s debut album “Romantic Wealth” came and went as a result of their unnoticed talent. Though still signed to a record label, they hadn’t signed to a major one. But fortunately for the few to many who enjoy the emocore/post-hardcore/pop band they were still able to record and release their album. “Romantic Wealth” was the successor the band’s Ep, “Savan In Super Pursuit Mode”, and had also featured three of the songs from it.
Lead singer, Daniel Murillo, shows extreme talent in his ability to reach high notes and somewhat unclean vocals. While the band is able to create a sound that perfectly blends with them. The song “Let It Go” shows a fast pace rhythm with high and fast vocals from Murillo and great instrumentals from the band. Like a lot of post-hardcore bands the lyrics could be heard and the thought through your head could be “need improvement” but the song for itself is overall fantastic. The song “A Kiss Won’t Make It Better” is one of the best songs off the album. Features Murillo singing excellently through it. Softly singing through the verses than transitioning to higher, more extreme notes. It also has some of the best lyrical content the band has written in the album.
Of course there being a number of good to great tracks on the album there are always low points as well. The song “So Easy” features more whiny vocals by Murillo and is uncreative to the end. The song seems to display too much effort to try and create something good. “A Song In The Key of Sex” is catchy but repetitive. Confusion sets when trying to determine whether Murillo is starting a new verse or singing the chorus as they both usually stat “I feel the rhythm in your body”.
Another complaint is the tenth and final track of “Romantic Wealth”. The track “For the Rest of Us” is beautiful in its own right, but throws off the listener expecting the album to end on a heavier note. Instead we reach a song that features Murillo beautifully singing with a piano playing the background. Again it good track, however it still could listener off. The track could still be featured but it would've have been better to place it in the middle to slow the pace of the album for a moment and then transition back into the heavier tracks.
The tragedy is the fact that this band hadn't gotten the chance to go more mainstream with their music. The tragedy is that the most cliche, overrated, and horrible bands gain the advantages in the music industry. This is truly a shame that the band’s talents have created something that shows creativity and has gone blind to the eye and deaf to the ear. And finally, it is disappointing that this band will most likely always remain underrated.
