Review Summary: Nailed. Dead. Risen. is an enjoyable album, but lacks variety.

Impending doom at the time of this album is....

Brooke Reeves - Vocals
Manny Contreras and Chris Forno - Guitar
David Sittig - Bass
Isaac Bueno - Drums

Impending doom is a Christian metal band. With their genre being Death Metal (arguable) that's not something you see very often. I haven't, anyway. The only Christian Metal band I remember hearing was the early and rare works of And Then There Were None but it was rare when they used metalcore elements.

It's rather ironic that this band is Christian, as almost every fellow Christian I ever mention that I listen to metal to wanted to perform an exorcism on me for the simple reason of brutality. That being said, it's not the case for all of them.

This album is very brutal. The Vocalist has a growl that is powerful, and deep ( For all who have sinned makes sure you know that, and good vocals are exactly what recent Cannibal Corpse isn't doing, but they never were good to begin with.) The Guitar work is good for what is is, and the drummer executes perfect blast beats and fills. They throw in a breakdown here and there, but they accomplish what they need to do, and they're not around every corner.

The player have undeniable talent, but their lack of creativity is what brings the album down. Almost all of the tracks sound the same. Chug, Blast beats, Growl, done. And any variation found sounds like a mistake. It takes away from what could have been one of the better death metal albums in recent years.

Nailed. Dead. Risen. is a good album, but taken down by it's lack of variety in vocal styles, and riffing. It's definitely worth a listen, but nothing much more.

I would watch out for over-use of the same words/phrasing. You set the "Christian band" precedent early, and shouldn't need to repeat that again.

"The player have undeniable talent, but their lack of creativity is what brings the album down."

While I am a fan of shorter reviews, this is almost too short. Again, earlier you have already discussed that this is pretty generic, and this doesn't really support that claim as it does repeat it.

Finally, you rate this at a 3; the review reads at a 2/2.5 at the best.

Keep writing, have a thesaurus and dictionary close by (like, in another tab on your browser) and keep reading others reviews. Best advice I can give.

Thanks for the advice.

The album gets a three because of the fact that it is a fun listen. If it was generic and poorly played, it would be 2 or lower.

too short.

"With their genre being Death Metal (arguable)"

nah

"It's rather ironic that this band is Christian, as almost every fellow Christian I ever mention that I listen to metal to wanted to perform an exorcism on me for the simple reason of brutality."

nightmare sentence

"The Guitar work is good for what is is, and the drummer executes perfect blast beats and fills."

explains literally nothing

"They throw in a breakdown here and there"

we listen to the same album?

"Nailed. Dead. Risen. is a good album, but taken down by it's lack of variety in vocal styles, and riffing. It's definitely worth a listen, but nothing much more."

this is the best point/sentence you had going until the end.

worth a listen but nothing much more? what more can you do to an album but listen to it?

perhaps you should elaborate and say that it's only good for ONE listen or somn

this also makes your review read like a 2-2.5 when you rated it a 3.

P.S.

please capitalize the d in "Doom" omg

If only Brooks did his highs on this album like on the end of "hes coming back" where he was joking with phil? This would be better

It's not worth listening to more than once. That was my point.

I have some constructive criticism, hopefully it doesn't come off as harsh. I think this has potential to be a strong review, so here are some things you may want to work on:

"The player have undeniable talent, but their lack of creativity is what brings the album down. Almost all of the tracks sound the same. Chug, Blast beats, Growl, done. And any variation found sounds like a mistake. It takes away from what could have been one of the better death metal albums in recent years. "

I would say that this small paragraph could be condensed into one sentence, two max. The shorter, choppy sentences in the review tend to go nowhere and when they do explain something, it's a retread of what you have already said. I would advise maybe trying to combine some of the elements in a more fluid manner:
"The players have undeniable talent, but their lack of creativity is what brings the album down. Almost all of the tracks sound the same, and it takes away from what could have been one of the better death metal albums in recent years."

It's hard to make the conclusion that any variation found on the album sounds like a mistake, only because no one can really make a claim as to what is intentional and what isn't on an album unless the band states it themselves. Besides that, you should make all mention of instruments and vocals lowercase; they needn't be capitalized in a review. Other than that, the overuse of the word and theme Christian has already been addressed.

I have more criticism, but I don't want to sound like a dick. If you'd like them, just shoutbox me and I'll help a brother out.

They have come a long way, but I feel like this album could have been a 4 or even more if they had expanded upon it.

Last Signal, thanks. It's only my 3rd review so I'll improve over time.
