After being the lead singer on the debut album of Escape The Fate and going to prison, Ronnie Radke has returned with his new band, Falling In Reverse, consisting of himself, Jacky Vincent (lead guitar), Derek Jones (rhythm guitar), Nason Schoeffler (bass), and Scott Gee (drums). Releasing their own debut album titled “The Drug In Me Is You”. When comparing the music Radke had done with Escape The Fate, the songs presented in the album seem to have more of a “pop-rock” element.
What can be complemented on the album is instrumentals and Ronnie’s spectacular vocals. Throughout this album it stays consistent but some songs odder and weaker than others. Such as the singles “I’m Not A Vampire” and title-track, “The Drug In Me Is You”. When comparing these two songs “I’m Not A Vampire” has stronger and harder instrumentals with less serious lyrics where as “The Drug In Me Is You” seems to do the opposite. Still impressive nonetheless.
Songs like “Pick Up The Phone” and “The Westerner” kept the signature pop-rock elements but were more darker. “Pick Up The Phone” Radke does a first person narrative of a love/hate relationship between him and a significant other. This song could be seen as controversial in my opinion due to references involving physical abuse. “The Westerner” Radke gives the story of his life and the ordeals he endured from his birth to present. From his mother abandoning him, his father raising him and his brother, and how it lead him to a life of drugs. The only problem with this song is that the second verse consist of him singing conceited lyrics involving how everyone is jealous of him. An admirable album to some extent. The singing and instrumentals are terrific, but the lyrics seem to lack something. But that doesn’t stop this from being a decent album.
