Review Summary: Let it sink in.

It’s been five years since the release of Daisy, an album that has sparked endless debate among Brand New fans, reviewers, and music critics. Some hail it as the band’s best work, while others dismiss it as their weakest. To some extent, both perspectives have merit. For me, Daisy stands as a raw and unfiltered expression of genuine emotion in musical form.

This album isn’t for everyone. It’s dense, depressive, and deliberately abrasive—qualities that have proven polarizing. Unlike The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me, which earned its place as a classic with its melodies, choruses, and finely textured song structures, Daisy feels untamed. It’s as if it was created by an entirely different band.

The shift in tone is immediately apparent. Most notably, Vin Accardi took over as the primary lyricist, and his influence permeates the record. From the jarring opener Vices to the eerie, lingering Noro, an unfamiliar sense of dread saturates the lyrics. The album feels like a relentless, vengeful ghost that refuses to be laid to rest. Brand New isn’t interested in crafting radio-friendly hooks here—they’re delivering something darker, something far removed from their previous efforts.

The soundscapes of Daisy are chaotic and unsettling. Out-of-tune, distorted guitars clash with greasy, churning basslines, while the drumming stands out as some of the most unconventional and compelling I’ve ever heard. At first listen, the album can feel like a disjointed, noisy wreck with cryptic lyrics and odd song structures. But there’s far more beneath the surface.

Ultimately, Daisy isn’t a grand, bombastic record reaching for transcendence. It’s a statement of everything and nothing—a bleak, inscrutable puzzle that offers no easy answers. That’s precisely what makes it so captivating. It’s not trying to be anything other than a dark, enigmatic creation that seemingly appeared out of nowhere, only to remain shrouded in mystery.

"crude example of geniune emotion"

genuine*

"Also it lacks the melody, choruses, song structures"

Saying 'It also' would flow better.

"they're not trying to convince you about anything"

Should be 'of anything'.

Overall, good review, especially for English being your second language. Pos'd!

Love this album.

After repeated listens, wich are required if you want to get the whole point of this, you start to notice the small details and subtleties that make this album a classic, you start to get the point of everything.

This sentence needs work too.

either correct "wich" to "which" or drop 'wich are' completely. It'll work either way.

Also it was unneccessary to restate the whole "you get the point" thing again.

That sentence restructured should look something like this.

"Only after repeated listens, required if you want to get the whole point of this, will you start to notice the small details and subtleties that make this album a classic."

Very good review, pos'd.

One thing I love about this album is that although Accardi is the main lyricist, the lyrics still have a ubiquitous "Brand New" feel to them.

Thanks man! And yeah, they never felt like another band wrote them. I mean, they are a bit more

ambiguous that Jesse's lyrics, but you still get that Brand New feel, like you said. Anyways, What's

your favorite song from this?

Toss up between You Stole and At The Bottom, though I pretty much dig everything on here.
