Even after listening to it for the n-th time Lateralus manages to keep me hooked; in fact more than hooked. The epic songs are stellar in length, proportion and sound. This has to be one of best cds i've heard. Right from the outset with Keenan's chant on the Grudge starting off the album with a tribal beat in the background that only Danny Carey can pull off this album pulls you away from whatever you were doing to pay it all the attention you got. From there it only gets better. The Patient, Mantra- Schism combo, the Parabol-Parabola combo.......
The highlights of the album are the parabol+parabola tracks and the trio of disposition, reflection and triad. The beauty of this record is the way all four musicians come together. No one shows off with any adverse affect to the quality of the music output. If anything they end up adding that much more to the cd. Keenan's soothing to harsh melodies, Adam Jones's melodious and yet hard playing, Chancellor's bass lines and Danny Carey's drumming all make this cd one of the best cds to have come out in a long time in this genre ( i might be burnt at the stake for this statement but that's my opinion :D) All in all a must have classic
