Review Summary: UK brutal death metal, on the rise.
Along with the likes of Acrania and Condemned, Manchester’s Ingested have been making waves in the death metal/deathcore scene ever since their 2009 debut, ‘Surpassing The Boundaries Of Human Suffering’. Though its follow-up, ‘The Surreption’, released two years later was fairly generic and forgettable, the band’s newest EP, ‘Revered By No One, Feared By All’, is a return to form.
Straight from the onset of ‘Titanomachy’, it’s obvious that ‘Revered By No One…’ is heavy. The opening track itself is a well-constructed slab of brutal death metal that slams its way through its running time. The song’s memorable too, which is a rarity in the genre, aided by the band’s use of deathcore influenced riffs and breakdowns among the beefy slams.
It’s the same story for the other songs. One of the band’s main successes is managing to be absolutely vicious on the slam side whilst still keeping everything as memorable and as groovy before. Whilst every song is quality, ‘Uncrowned’ is by far the most technical and demonstrates the more complex side of the band’s music, albeit it does drag a little thanks to its five minute running time.
With that being said, album closer ‘Endgame’ is definitely the strongest track on the release. Because it’s rooted more in deathcore than death metal, it’s incredibly accessible too and would act as a perfect introduction to anybody who’s not listened to Ingested (or brutal death metal in general) before. The song’s definitely the band's most memorable, thanks to its chorus and repeated motif of “This is the endgame, so prepare to kill”, before the absolutely
crushing slam at the end.
If there’s one thing that ‘Revered By No One…’ does, is that it proves Ingested are set to be huge within the extreme metal scene. Drawing on influences as varied but equally weighty as Katalepsy, Acrania and Cephalotripsy, ‘Revered By No One…’ is definitely as good it gets for metal in the UK.
