Metropolis Part 2, hmm, part 2? Where is the first part you may be asking yourself? Look back to the year 1992 with the album Images and Words, and one track is called Metropolis Part 1 where our story begins. Ahh, yes, but what is the connection? Part 1 was a joke to the band telling a short part of a story, but many many fan letters pleading for part 2 later, and here it is. Metropolis Part 2: Scenes From a Memory illustrates though the medium of music the story of a man with troubling dreams, and after under gong hypnotherapy, tries to unlock the door to his past life. Yes, the band deals with such a delicate philosophical matter as what happens when we die. But because the story is so well structured and presented by these fine musicians that the point of the matter is well scripted. The concept album, as this is, is for many fans hard to stomach, yet for Dream Theater it is done so beautifully and with such brilliance.
For any Dream Theater fan, a must have, for the novice to the band or their progressive genre, a pleasant surprise. This album lives up to the mark of an epic and is well worth it.
