Ok so Atreyu full into the metalcore genre. And seems to be either you love them or you hate them. I'm on the love side of things. Have been following the band since butterfly notes and suicide kisses. "The Curse" allthough a very much over produced record was still an awesome record. So with the release of "A Death Grip On Yesterday" have the band changed much? Well yes and no. Although still sticking to the formula which made "The Curse" as good as it was they try new thing which really makes this a kick ass record.
1. Creature: Very hard hitting first track to the record, Alex's Vocals are as per normal at the there best. Awesome guitar riff. Then chorus Brandon comes in with the patterned singing rather than shourting vocals. Overall a great opender to a great record. 5/5
2. Shameful: One of the best on the record. The opening riff from Dan is imense. Also branching away from the normal shouting verse and singing chours. Brandon comes in straight away with the verse. With Alex doing backing vocals. Chorus is just unbelievably catchy. Going to be a great live favourite. 5/5
3. Our Sick Story: Pretty Catchy tune. Not my favourite. But still good. Got a quality solo close to the end. With a imense close. 3.5/5
4. The Theft: Ok my least favourite song on the album, almost sounds like some rubbish like my chemical romance. Dosent sound like atreyu. The chours is ok but personally not my thing.
5. We Stand Up: Getting the album straight back on track. Nice and heavy love Alex's quality shouting vocals for the verse amaing lyric "This Is For Me And The Boys". Chorus Brandon comes in with a more agressive singing tone. Second Verse has a awesome whammy section just sounds quality. Solo sounds like somin "Tom Morrelo" would do. Just a great song one of the best on the record. 5/5
6. Ex And Oh's: First single of the record. And it is amazing possibly better than "Right Side Of The Bed". Verse builds up to chorus which is catchy as hell. Solo's from both Dan & Travis. Both being great solo's. Once again great song and songs like this which really make the album. 5/5
7. Your Private War: A heavy one comes straight in with a havy riff. Shouting vocals on verse. Chorus as per normal is really catchy. Great song. 4/5
8. My Fork In The Road (Your Knive In My Back). Possibley the catchiest opening riff you shall ever hear. Verse amazing carrying on a modified version of the opening riff. Chorus Brandon Vocals sound spot on possibley best from him on the whole record. That good. An imense solo as you would come to expect from the two Atreyu guitarist's. Just a absolutley amazing song. 5/5
9. Untitled Finale: Slightly slower than previous track but still heavy. With Verse vocal duties being swapped by both Brandon & Alex. Brandon doing the chorus vocals. A really strange end to the song with shotuing and words being said fading out. But never the less a great close to the record. 4/5
10. Her portrait In Black (ok not actually on the album but its only underworld soundtrack so thought i would review with the album): Ok a great build up leading into the song. Verse riff nice and catchy and heavy. Chours is a a change from rest of the song but works well. The solo is really strange for Atreyu a whammy pedal solo. But works well and shows the versitile playing of Dan & Travis. 4/5
Ok so overall just a great record, and if you enjoyed any other Atreyu record you shall love it. If you didn't like "The Curse" or "Suicide Notes And Butterfly Kisses" chances are you wont like this one either. But anywho there best record to date and a must for Atreyu fans.
