Review Summary: An exceptional album, packed to the brim with all kinds of emotions.

Honestly, if I'm going to take the trip back in time, this is one of the first albums that I truly heard. By this, I mean I delved into the lyrics, sung along, and tried to play on guitar. I first heard of this band through the song Pitiful on NHL 2003. I can't quite say what drew me to check them out. It could of been the emotion I felt in the chorus when he half sang, half screamed Pitiful. Or it could be that it was something new to me at the time, and I was curious.

Though this band does tend to have more religious lyrics, there are many things that can be compared to the real world. The chorus of Midnight may be talking about a man struggling with the thought of suicide, and half enjoying life (hands towards the light) half hating it (feet on ground of shadows). Many people obviously struggle with these thoughts, and these hit me because of people around me I knew had these exact thoughts.

The song that grew on me the most, was "Sleepwalking". There are plenty of different interpretations for the lyrics of this song, but I came to the conclusion that they are about someone in a coma trying to escape it. The screaming and singing of "Goodbye" adds so much emotion, you can't help but feel even slightly moved as you come to the realization that they have either died, or been euthanized.

As for the instrumentation, it is quite standard for a band of this genre. The guitar riffs can be quite catchy, although simply, but do the trick. Combined with the drums and vocals, it does fit quite well. My only complaint is that the bass is hardly audible throughout the album. "The Endings" does show that he can strum the bass quite well when needed, it just isn't used nearly enough.

The title track is easily the quietest song on the album, with quite good reason considering the album title. It does not mean that it isn't a exceptional song. His quiet soothing voice is a perfect mood-setter for the track, and even though it is the longest song on the album, the peacefulness is the perfect break from the chaos we have heard.

Overall, this album is exceptional, and if you want meaningful lyrics packed with raw emotion, I highly recommend this album.

This was a blast of nostalgia for me. I never listened to their albums past About a Burning Fire, but that and this were their best albums of the four I heard. Still spin these a few times a year.

Good review man, pos. Don't be so self-depreciating, this reads fine, especially considering how few reviews you have written.
I've not written one myself so I aren't in much of a position to comment, but it seems like you spend to much time talking about your own lyrical interpretations of the songs, especially considering the length of the review. I feel like you could spend more time talking about the overall atmosphere and sound of the album, rather than writing it off as "standard for a band of this genre". If we haven't heard this style, how are we supposed to know what it sounds like?
Anyway, I'm sorry if I went overboard on the criticism as I definitely enjoyed the review. Keep at it man, you'll only get better :]

Minus.

Very underrated band from Sweden. I really like this album and used to jam it a lot, but havent in a while. I think I'm going to listen to this today at work.
