Review Summary: Blizzard puts on a stellar show for his second EP, but not a flawless performance, with some rather dull beats

Many people may have heard of Blizzard through the rap battle video on the internet that went viral in which he was put to the sword by a former school teacher by the name of Mark Grist. For the majority of people who have seen this video, this is all they will know of 18-year old Grime MC Blizzard, but this should really stop. Blizzard is in fact a fairly big underground grime artist in the UK, having first been signed by High Rise Records when he was 16 in his native city of Manchester, who has released two EP's to date. Neck Breaker is the second of these EPs.

Lyrical content and flow are primarily the driving force of grime music, and this is where Blizzard truly succeeds. The beats are fairly bland, with little to stand out about them at all. However, his flows are very nicely constructed, with his voice being quite fast paced but always completely understandable. Never on this EP is there a moment where he is rapping so fast you wonder what he is saying, which is nice to hear. His lyrics are often very arrogant, speaking of how he is about to blow up and become successful and what he will do with the money when he has it, but he never forgets his past. Moments on this album reference being bullied in the past, or his ex's and how he would always choose music over them. There are the occasional questionable moments, especially during the chorus of the last two tracks, but apart from that the lyrics are pretty strong.

I'm Nearly There is easily Blizzard's biggest song and is also far and away the best track here. The lyrics are perhaps the strongest on the EP and show off a good example of how good he is at his best. His flows are impeccable, the beat is rather strong (unlike the rest of them on here which really hold it back) and the chorus is quite catchy. This track is the one where he mentions his ex's and it really works well on this track with lines such as "you can't ever shake your tears on my shoulder" and "I just like music, bun your cuddles". This is probably the best song here. This EP in general is quite strong, aside from the beats and that Blizzard has somewhat of an annoying voice. Check it out if you like grime music.
