Seriously... what did everyone expect? This is will.i.am, not Beethoven. The former's newest record, #Willpower, is an electropop record with guest spots from Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, Britney Spears, and about twenty-seven others. If you come into this expecting something transcendental, or something which will change your outlook on life, you've come to the wrong place. But that is not what this record tries to achieve. #Willpower is an album for dancing, for playing in clubs, and for blasting in your car when there's nothing better on 98.3 GENEROPOP FM. This is not technical, not particularly original, and certainly not a classic album- but it isn't trying to be. Indeed, this record brings to the forefront a dilemma in the very purpose of musical criticism: is it to hold against our own standards, or to analyze from the perspective of the target audience? Or, even further, should an album be dissected upon its intentions? The answer is probably somewhere in the middle. With that philosophy in mind, #Willpower will suit nightclubs and radio stations just fine for the next two or so months, until it is discarded like most else in the genre.

This is the most accurate review I've ever seen for an album.

POS from me, i'm will.i.am's nephew, by the way, anything you would like to tell him?

I'm sure he'd appreciate feedback from great fans like you.

Strong points, although I am not sure that this really needs 4 reviews.

There's really a lot more to it than that. This could be said about any pop album from the eyes of someone is obviously isn't a fan of pop music. You're very dismissive of this album, and this review gives the impression that there's not enough to it for it to be criticized for anything other than general reasons, which I think I myself proved wrong as I brought up quite a few criticisms that had nothing to do with it being generic in my own review of this.

and btw how do you know what the intentions of a record is unless you either made the record or talked to the person who made it?

i bet 90% of people who say shit like "this record is trying to be blah blah..." haven't read a single interview from the artist confirming their opinion. It's a useless conjecture imo.

This is terrible, end of sorry, seen way to many reviews saying the same thing. Well good on you for at least trying to make this sound decent.

Except will.i.am actually used to make pretty interesting alternative hip hop music, so yeah, that's a reason to expect something out of this album. It's not like he and The Black Eyed Peas were always making music like this, if that WAS the case I suppose that whole "it's just pop for the clubs, stop having high expectations" argument could apply, but that's a really stupid argument anyway. It seriously implies that you could only ever criticize pop music like this for being "brainless party music," which is definitely not the case. If you actually observe the music, you can find all sorts of pros and cons that don't just all come back to the whole "you can't be too critical with pop music because it's not trying to be amazing" argument that you could use for practically anything.
