Review Summary: A great collection of euphoric trance with a few electro zingers put in as well.
I've only recently gotten into Zedd. I've been in a Feed Me phase recently, and since I love Feed Me's take on electro house, I wanted to look for more producers in a similar vein. I found out about Zedd a long time ago, actually, back in 2010 when he made a remix of "The Time (Dirty Bit)" by the Black Eyed Peas. Since I wasn't a huge EDM freak back then, I moved on. Since I discovered deadmau5 last summer, I've been listening to many forms of EDM. Zedd's take on EDM may be one of the hardest I've heard yet.
"Clarity" is a softer record. It breaks away from Zedd's usual strain of heavy electro. A lot of trance appears in this album, including my personal favorite, "Spectrum". Electro trance makes other appearances in "Clarity", for example, "Lost at Sea" and "Epos". Even though trance makes up a lot of songs on this album, I'm happy Zedd didn't completely abandon his harder side. "Shave It Up" is actually a refreshed version of an old single, "Shave It", and it wakes up the people who might fall asleep during the softer parts of this album. "Fall Into the Sky" features collaborations with British pop star Ellie Goulding and fellow producer Lucky Date and is another heavy-hitter on this record. "Stache" is also hard.
I'd say that Zedd balances out his trance and his electro sides evenly in this album, and it works. As you can hear in "Hourglass", the clock is ticking. Get this album as soon as you can, you won't regret it!
