Review Summary: Watch That Man...
A fair skinned naked man steps out of a dressing room and into a hallway. His hair is orange and a cigarette hangs from his mouth, he looks slightly agitated. "Where is my band? Where are the Spiders", he moans at no one in particular. Looking even more uneasy he makes his way back to his dressing room to put on his makeup and outfit for his show. This man's name is Ziggy Stardust, and he's an alien sent to earth to save the world with Rock n' Roll.
An hour later our man Ziggy is on stage, thousands of sexy kids cheering at his feet. "Hey Man! Leave Me Alone!", he yells as his band, The Spiders from Mars, rip through a fast paced rock number that has the kids shaking their hips. While his band is ripping the audience a new one, Ziggy is busy wailing into a microphone and wiggling his body in a way that has the audience in a frenzy. "Ooooohhhh HIT ME!", yelps Ziggy into the mic, and the audience is melting in his hands. At the conclusion of the song he yells "Wham Bam Thank You Man!" before running off stage with his band mates to celebrate another victory for his Spiders from Mars.
From the outside looking in Ziggy appears invincible. He's well hung with a snow white tan, and boy can he play guitar. The girls (and boys) are attracted to him like flies to a buzzing light. If Ziggy wants to snort cocaine off of Queen Elizabeth's tits, by god he can do it and no one will dare object. If Ziggy wants to drop a lit cigarette down baby's diaper, it's mother will have no choice but to thank him for it. Ziggy seems to have it all.
On the inside though, Ziggy is fighting demons. His drug abuse is spiraling out of control and he is haunted by visions of flies trying to break his bones. He spends his nights locked in his hotel room with a gun, a needle, a spoon, a lighter, a bible, and dream. The Spiders From Mars have grown to resent Ziggy for always being in the spotlight while they slip farther and farther into the background. Ziggy's breaking down.
One night, after reading "The Catcher in the Rye", a young fan waits for Ziggy outside of his hotel. When Ziggy exits the fan approaches him and asks him for an autograph. Ziggy obliges and signs the boy's left breast and hurry's along on his way. The fan waits outside of the hotel for Ziggy to come back. An hour or two later Ziggy rounds the corner and the boy draws a gun and shoots Ziggy through the heart.
Later that night while staring at the sky, Ringo Starr see's a twinkle. "What's that?" Ringo asks himself. It's a new star. A star falls and a new star is born. Funny, how these things tend to work themselves out. Yes, indeed it is.
