Review Summary: This should have been the real TDARGIM.
Obviously after the lows of Deja Entendu it was time for yet another grand change and so Brand NEw ditched their old sound. And in their place they recaptured the new sounds and the darker side of their music. Now seeing as the whole gang is back together and considering I didn't like Deja Entendu at all, you might think I'd hate this album. But nothing could be farther from the truth. I think this is probably as good as they will ever be again because quite frankly their track record is pretty terrible. So this may be their last hurray but they sure made it a good one if that's the case, filling the album with grand songs and cool ideas even though the song titles are confusing.
The first thing you'll notice upon spinning the album is the introduction to Untitled 1. Its a great song don't get me wrong but in all reality, its really misleading. The rest of the album doesn't really sound anything like this at all. I've gotta say though it definitely sounds like a good way to start an album. From here things become more recognizable starting with Untitled 2. This is what Jesus Christ from The Devil and God should have been and it's quite touching. It's got some pretty sad subject matter but the song itself is pretty and has some grand vocals. The next song Untitled 3 is a good song and manages to sound like the version of Brand New that I know and love.
This isn't a perfect album however. Luca and Sowing Season from TDARGIM are both on here, but they are slightly better. Especially Luca because it doesn't have that stupid screaming Where You Been at the end. It has variety though. Especially the first couple songs where Jesse actually sounds other people for a bit, which is kind of a cool new sound for him. The whole vocal performance on the album is great and its good to have some simplicity other than just being loud for a change. Over all its definitely one of Brand New's best albums and it might be the best they'll ever be again.
