Review Summary: After 6 years of waiting, The D comes back with their followup to The Pick of Destiny and it doesn't disappoint.
Well, this is my first review so don't judge me. But, you are going to judge me, this is the internet. Anyways, Rize of the Fenix, the long awaited followup to their 2006 release The Pick Of Destiny and its companion film. This will be a track by track because it's easy and to the point. Let's get to it.
Rize of the Fenix - The title track and first single to the album. This one deals with the negative critical response to The Pick of Destiny and how they will comeback. The song starts with a driving acoustic riff but soon turns into a fast rocker. Highly recommended and is one of the best tracks on the CD. 5/5
Low Hangin' Fruit - This one is a bit generic and is about trying to find some women. It isn't bad, but there is better. 3/5
Classical Teacher - The first of two skits on the record, along with Flutes and Trombones. It is about how KG needs to "improve his skills" so Jack hires a spanish classical teacher. Hilarity ensues. 4/5
Senorita - This one has a (you guessed it) spanish feel to and tells a tale of a bar fight over a woman named Conchita. This is one of the best songs on here and it comes highly recommended. 5/5
Deth Starr - One of the first tracks written for CD, and one of the heavier ones. This one has a sort of science fictiony feel to it and it rocks. Hard to explain it 4.5/5
Roadie - Another one of best songs on here and it is a slower rock ballad about the hardships of the Roadie and his hardships of being unrecognized. The video with Danny McBride was hilarious. Check this one out. 5/5
Flutes and Trombones - The last skit on the record and it is Kage and Jables arguing about flutes and trombones. It's alright, but skippable. 2.5/5
The Ballad of Hollywood Jack and the Rage Kage - This one is a slow ballad (you guessed it) and it is how Hollywood Jack went on to become famous while Rage Kage didn't. It is one of the lesser tracks to me but is worth listening to. 3.5/5
Thrown Down - Another one of the lesser tracks, this song is a generic rocker about how people should not care so much about religion. I usually skip it. 2/5
Rock is Dead - This short little ditty is about how rock is dead (took rocket science to figure that out). It is still a great track and it comes recommended. 4.5/5
They F****D our A***S - I believe this the first written for the album and it still holds up. Another short track and it how labels screw over The D. Great Song. 4.5/5
To Be The Best - This one was in the short video announcing the return of The D and it sounds like a pumped up workout song with keyboards and everything. Another great song 4.75/5
39 - This is the last song on the record and is a slow song about a dude and his 39 year old hooker love. This one has a country feel to it and JB does a southern voice and he uses it to great comedic effect (wait till he says anus). It still isn't one of the better songs on here. 3.75/5
Well that was the album and it is one of the best releases of the year thus far and is well worth the price of admission
