Review Summary: Another great Hertfordshire band
Lower than Atlantis hail from Watford, UK, my hometown. Therefore I am particularly proud of how great they are. I have only discovered them recently but they are slowly turning into one of my favourite bands and it's thanks to this album.
This is their third album and it's noticeably better than their other two. The melodies are stronger, the lyrics are outstanding, Mike Duce has a truly individual style of singing that fits the band and overall it is a more cohesive end product.
The lyrics are a particular strong point on this album and I find that they resonate with me a lot. Mike Duce takes a succinct look at life living in a town with not much to do and his pop culture references make them all the better.
World Record is not an album with too many stand out songs, not because its bad but because the songs are so good. My personal favourites are 'Beech Like a Tree', 'Deadliest Catch' and 'Another Sad Song'. The problem is there are some songs which don't live up to the high standard set on this album, one song in particular springs to mind, Uni 9Mm
This band can only get better and better, and this album is only the first step to becoming one of the best British bands around.
