Review Summary: I am older now, i listen to this cd again almost 10 years after hearing it for the first time. i am bombarded by memories from my high school years and the feelings i had.
this one was my first favorite album. the scores i gave were kinda low to be consi
In 2003, the entire world was introduced to a little Canadian band called Three Days Grace when they released their self-titled album.
(a little back story to why i decided to review this song) Three Days Grace was my favorite band through high school. I remember first hearing my first Three Days Grace song, "I Hate Everything About You" was the first single off this album. I was sitting in my room listening to the raid. I thought it was another band, Disturbed. I asked my friend who was it and she answered, i was presently surprised. A few weeks later i won free concert tickets to see them live and i fell in love instantly. The next day i literally ran to Best Buy and bought the cd, no questions asked. This album played in my cd player for 2 years non-stop. *note: it is almost 10 years later, i used to know a lot about this album, all lyrics and such, but i have since moved on to other music.
So onto the songs....
Burn - Track number uno on the album. it's a pretty good intro track to be honest, (mostly because of the start of the song is a build up and not a hard start that could hurt your ears if you were not prepared)
3/5
Just Like You - Second track, and second single from the album. I liked this track's message. It's like saying, "Go away, i am my own person"
3/5
I Hate Everything About You - "The track that moved a lot of units" some might say. The intro guitar riffs are so distinct. i always wondered if he is playing the guitar wrong or not.. this song is really good to put on when you wanna hit something and say F-U to someone. This is my favorite track probably always will too 5/5
Home- A slower track than "I Hate.." but it's power is just as strong. This was the third single from the album, probably the second "unit mover". It is a pretty good song, if you ever see 3DG live, or watch their live dvd, you will notice this song is rather long... but thats not what im reviewing.. this is a good song in summary. it isn't one of my favorites, but it is nice to listen to.
3/5
Scared- A upbeat track. The lead singer, Adam, always mentions in concerts that this song is about a ghost in the studio they recorded at. its a nice sound difference from the slower "Home" song. This song is just ok...
3/5
Let You Down- there are only two songs i don't like on the album, this is one of them. i feel that it is the true defintion of a "filler" track. i never listen to this track and i never will again. it is so boring.. sorry..
1/5
Now or Never - this is a great song one of my favorites. it is lyrically great, rather slow, but still great.
4/5
Born Like This- the second "filler" track, boring to me.. probably great to someone else..
1/5
Drown- This song is neck and neck with "I Hate.." as my favorite. this song i listened to many times on repeat. "good morning day, sorry i'm not there. All my favorite friends, vanished in the air" "if i needed someone to control me, if i need someone to hold me down. I would change my direction and save myself before i drown." this spoke to me as a teenager.. with all teens go through emotional chaos in daily life.
5/5
Wake Up - i admit, when i was younger, i would only listen to songs with swearing. this song is the first of two with swearing on it. it is also a really good song. the acoustic guitar is a nice change from the electrics. this is a rather slow song, but still powerful in message and a good listen.
4/5
Take Me Under - "now it seems i'm fading/ all my dreams are not worth saving" sounds like a typical teenager eh? "push me under, pull me further.. take me all the way! take me all the way!" it is a great song, aswell as when played in concerts.
3/5
Overrated - the last track. it is very distinct in sound and coulda been put somewhere else on the album and probably been a hit. its another song to put on when you wanna punch something. its slow, but powerful. i like it
