Release Date: 2003 | Tracklist

Brand New was a band that after their 2001 release of "Your Favorite Weapon", were considered a on the rise pop-punk band, with nothing to lose and in MTV "Advanced Warning" behind them, Brand New release a better more progressive pop punk album in "Deja Entendu", the fans responses were up and down, and some people even called them sellouts, this album is 3 years old but the tracks are still great and will definetly stick in your head.

Track Listing:
1. Tautou
2. Sic Transit Gloria...Glory Fades

4. Okay I Believe You, But My Tommy Gun Don't
5. The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows

9. Guernica
10. Good To Know That If I Ever Need Attention All I Have To Do Is Die
11. Play Crack The Sky

Track by Track Review

1. Tautou
A song that makes no sense to me and not the way Brand New wanted to kick off their 2nd album, the song has limited lyrics, and the use of metaphors is pretty good, but it doesn't have the energy that the other songs have and its not a good opener to this album. 5/10

2. Sic Transit Gloria...Glory Fades
This song starts out with a cool beat that really gets you into, the song, but you're still wondering when the powerful jam session is going to come, and it does, the chrous has powerful energy driven lyrics, and it really turns out great, it is a fast paced song, but the only bad part of this song is if you ever see the live version of this song, Brand New doesn't scream "Die Young And Save Yourself", which in my opinion is the best part of this remarkable song, very good song. 9/10

3. I Will Play My Game Beneath the Spin Light
This song has some of the most remarkable lyrics, I have ever listened to , the acoustic beat to start the song makes you think its going to be a soft song, but it isn't, this song chronicles Brand New's tour struggles and how they just want to be home and live a normal life, not this Brand New life they are starting on tour, the chrous is great, but not as good as its catchy surronding lyrics, and the ending of this song piles all of the nonsense together to make one of my favorite songs from Brand New. 10/10
4. Okay I Believe You, But My Tommy Gun Don't
Starts out a little bit slow but with catchy lyrics, so you don't mind the slowness, it goes two times through with catchy lyrics but again the slow beat, this all piles up to a unbelivable chrous that the first time i heard it, honestly took my breath away, the lyrics and chrous are so awesome and catchy, and the beat is great so i give this song a 9.95/10

5. The Quiet Things...
This is one of my favorite songs in the 6th grade, baciscally because of the chrous, which is great in mostly all the brand new songs, plus it kind of brings back the old Brand New, not saying the rest of the album is going to be like this but this song is very good. 8.75/10

6. The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot
One of my favorite songs, it stays acoustic throughout, and it brings back the kind of pop punk feel to the song, it slow moving, and the lyrics are catchy and for once creative, i've never seen a punk band that can do slow songs and still have catchy lyrics, but Brand New somehow puts it together in this song, its really a collabroation of all the Brand New songs if you look up the lyrics, its about sadness, Breakups, were getting old but were still kind of young, we can still do this, no we cant, its my fault, no its your fault, thats what this song is saying but its saying it with differnt words and lyrics, plus the title of the song is real cool, but I wish that the chrous was repeated more often, that is the only con to this song. 8/10

7. Jaws Theme Swimming
Starts off with a kind of old school, 70's beat, the lyrics are not understandable, at the begining but it all ties together and pre-chrous which has cool duel lyrics, but this song doesn't pile up to be as good as the other songs because it tends to drag on, and at sometime you think " this has to get old", and after a few time through it does, but its still a good song. 7.75/10

8. Me Vs. Maradona Vs. Elvis
Oh my, we have hit a low, this song if you listen to the lyrics, its about Jessie bringing a drunk girl home and sleeping with her, a kind of stupid song that along with the opener probably shouldn't have made the album, I do like some parts of this song the chrous is alright, but when you have that argument about bands and someone says Brand New has a sex song tell them the song shouldn't have even made the album. 6/10

9. Guernica
This song makes up for the lack of emotion of the last song, the catchy lyrics start out the song, and its one of my favorites on the album, because you can listen to it over and over again and not get tired of it, that why it has to be considered a elite Punk song.

10. Good To Know That If I Ever Need Attention All I Have To Do Is Die
A song that some people say is simillar to track 8 on this album, but i tend to disagree because the beat is way differnt and so is the concept, the chrous is a lot better, and so are the lyrics, not a lot of aggresivness is invovled though so you can make the argument that the songs are alright, the chrous is beautiful and its probably unites the band, it is a very good track. 8/10

11. Play Crack The Sky
A very good final track to the CD, really sums it all up, good lyrics, and good everything, a solid song. 8/10

Pros:
Catchy Lyrics
New Sound
Tracks 3 4 and 5
Only 2 Skippable Tracks

Cons:
New Album?
Some Songs to long

Brand New brings a new sound to the table in this album and if you like Brand New you defintely want to buy this.

Very good album :D
Review wise, you made quite a few valid points there however your punctuaction is a bit o.t.t. Like what AV8RS said, there are too many commas, and you constantly add more points on top of another - next time you could spend more time developing those points individually and seperate them by doing a new sentence. Use hyphons and semi colons, too, they work a treat

The big problem with this review is that you failed to describe the instrumentation of most tracks, you focused a little to much on the lyrics. Average t-b-t review, next time try adding a little more detail about the instruments and overall sound instead of putting all of your focus into the chorus and lyrics.

I have this album, and I am less than thrilled with it. While the music is catchy, nothing really stands out and I find this album to be bland and boring.

You're an idiot. I registered on this site just so I could tell you that.
Your spelling and grammar were, at best, sub-par with far too many unforgivable and glaring mistakes to mention and your comprehension of the lyrics and concepts seems to be woefully inadequate. You really don't seem to grasp this album do you? Do you ever manage to grasp anything? I'd be amazed if you could even dress yourself to be honest.
I'm going to have to stop now before I get really angry and somehow "accidently" fall over with a knife in my hand a repeatedly stab you...

Good album, I quite enjoy it. Anyways dude, you need to works out the kinks, and add some maturity to your writing. Remember, alot of people on this site aren't it in their teens (which I am assuming you are), so you need to use better grammar, do some more research and talk about more than the vocals. You completely failed to comment on awesome arrangements in alot of the songs.

this album far surpasses their previous release. i think you over rated some of the songs though, and a couple others didn't get enough credit. i think "me vs. maradona vs. elvis" and "play crack the sky" are two of the best songs on the album, and "play crack the sky" imo arguably has the best written lyrics on the album.
solid review though, like everyone else said try and focus a little more on the instrumentals next time.

Exactly, 'Me vs. Maradona vs. Elvis' deserved far more than a 6 out of 10. It may be a bit of a grower but listen to the lyrics man. These guys are excellent songwriters.

well i gotta say ive listened to these guys before and its just not my type of tune. especially cause the drumming sucks and i play the drums but whose to know why it wasnt better. i can only respect them as musicians. (although they did bash bands they toured with ina 2003 AP issue.)

Why review an album when it has already been reviewed three other times if you don't even say anything new? Ehh whatever I'm not going to go into that.

'MvMvE' does deserve way more credit than you gave it, it could very possiably be one of the best songs on this album because of it's well crafted lyrics and Jesse's passionate vocals. Infact the majority of this album is very well crafted, the only thing it lacks really is variety in structure.

I agree with the last comment... The quiet verse, loud chorus formula are used in too many songs.. Aside than that, i can't complain much..
