Review Summary: An excellent example of death metal done right.
Mistweaver is a melodic death metal band from Spain, formed in 1997. Their latest album, Tales From The Grave, is a worthy addition to any metal enthusiast's music collection.
The album begins with the instrumental, "The Fairytale", to help set the mood. Its acoustic guitar and piano lead us straight into "Sons of Darkness", a fast moving track with some catchy riffs and solid drums. Both the guitars and drumming are excellent throughout the entire album. The drum fills are interesting, and the guitar solos are incredibly tasty. The inclusion of acoustic guitar and sharp changes in tempo help to keep things fresh. "Into the Realms of the Dead" is an excellent example. Keyboards are used often, but aren't overpowering. They complement both the guitars and bass nicely. "Through the Gates of Timeless Departure" has some very impressive piano work.
The vocals are quite good, with the lead vocalist utilizing various screams and growls. The addition of a female vocalist on "Another Endless Night" is a welcome surprise. Her vocals are accompanied by the acoustic guitar, which provides a refreshing contrast to the heavier sections of the song.
This album is an excellent example of death metal done right. Each of the 13 tracks is unique, and the atmosphere throughout the record is incredible. A very enjoyable listen.
