The Bronx is a punk band from America that formed in 2002. This album ‘White Drugs’ was released in 2004 and since then they have done many live shows and reviews. Places like America and Australia have a lot of live shows.
Heart Attack American 4/5
This song stars off with a fast, distorted guitar beat with powerful drumming. As the lyrics are introduced, with a scream, they then turn into the lyrics, which, are sung at a fast pace to match the guitar and drums. The song is a heavy song that could easily be moshed too. The whole way through the song the guitar is fast and heavy. As the lyrics fade out with the heavy guitar and powerful drums which become the outro.
False Alarm 5/5
This song enters with a sharp powerful bass line and a distorted guitar, unlike ‘Heart Attack American’ the lyrics are a bit less screamed and the guitar is less heavy, in some ways this works for the song. The actual song has a catchy tune and the drums are strong and powerful. For an outro they use a fade out.
White Tar 3/5
This song has a short cleaner introduction on the guitar, which goes into clean lyrics and powerful drumming. Where it has a powerful drumming it lacks in guitar were you would expect a heavy tune it’s a fairly simple set of riffs that give little to the imagination. Every now and again you hear a scream from in-between riffs. This song is quite repetitive and fades out at the outro.
Cobra Lucha 3.5/5
The intro to this song was a lot like ‘White Tar’ with a powerful drum and bass line but little power in the guitar, although it does seem to be more interesting to listen to as there is a bit more power which is in the drumming and lyrics. It has a little bass solo behind the lyrics, which is a nice thing to see, and kept my interest. This song like the others faded out, I thought they could have used something a little more creative for an outro although on the whole the song is O.K. to listen to but not a challenge if you wanted to learn it.
They Will Kill Us All (Without Mercy) 4/5
This song came in a little better and I did enjoy it, as the tune was quite catchy and stuck in my head. Again the guitar isn’t anything special but mixed with the drumming and bass line it makes a good sound, with the lyrics on top it really does make a fairly good song. I heard what resembled a solo, which was fairly interesting, but id you aren’t listening for it you won’t notice it. The outro was still a fade but went out with a good drumming riff in the background, which did sound fairly good.
I Got Chills 3/5
This song is a fairly good song to listen to the guitar has a nice distortion and every now and again you will hear a little bass riff, which really adds to the depth of the song. As with the other songs the drumming is good but the guitar lacks in interest. Although they do have a fairly noticeable solo in this song it isn’t the most interesting to listen to I do think that on the whole this song is quite a good listen.
Gun Without Bullets 3.5/5
This song starts with fast lyrics which add to the effect and you can hear that the guitar does fit in with the rest of the song well and the drums really give the depth that make the song sound heavy. Again they had a guitar solo, which, I must admit does sound a bit better and does have a bit more interest.
Notice Of Eviction 4/5
This song does sound a lot better and much more interesting, although it’s not as heavy, it has an effect that does fit and sound good. The drums still have the power and the guitar stands out a bit more, the only difference is the bass line doesn’t seem to stand out as much any more, although I think this song is good as it does seem to all fit.
Kill My Friends 4/5
In this song the guitar seems to be much better than in the other songs, it seems to have more depth and interest in the riffs which is quite nice to see, the drums are still the power point of the song and the bass has sections where it stands out and makes the song sound good. The thing I noticed the most is how much they used the symbol in this song and it does work.
Strobe Life 5/5
This song starts with really good bass riff and is then accompanied by some distorted guitar and some drums, which then feed to the lyrics. The lyrics fit this song well and on a whole it sounds good, by far the best. Throughout the song the bass line is in the background standing out and the guitar still holds up to standards and sounds really good mixed with the drums and bass. The lyrics are different in this song, they sound less shouted and in this song it does work and sounds good. You hear what could have been a drum solo and the guitar fed in at the end as the lyrics come in which sound a bit more ‘shouted’. As the bass line gets isolated so it stands out all the instruments feed back together and the lyrics start again, which is good. The song ends the same way it starts with the bass line, which is a bit more creative than just ‘fading out’.
Los Angeles 3.5/5
This song is very different. Although the bass still stands out and the drums sound good as the main, the guitars don’t really come in until the chorus, which I think sounded good as the bass and drums did fit together. The lyrics are different, but they suit the song they don’t seem to be a scream more like just normal singing, which from the rest of the album isn’t the same, although, for the song it does sound good and it all fits together nicely.
This album is good but lacks in inspiration in some songs, even though the guitars lacked inspiration it did sound good as the drums and bass line made the songs really go well together and sound fairly good.
